We are missing possibly the most important step in ship evolution and truly the most classy naval vessel ever built in history: the paddlewheel boat.

This is the Crescent City Queen, now a casino but was used by union troops during the civil war many times for good old fashioned river shoot-outs. They just lined the sides of the ship with troops and had it out with confederate paddlewheels. They put a few cannon in it too for extra fun, but mostly musketfire was the main action. A good time was had by all.

This is one of the confederate paddlewheel boats which fought against the Crescent City Queen. There were a lot of paddlewheels used in other wars in Europe and what not during the age of steam but I don't know much about those wars.

Maybe one of our heroic creators like aaglo or wyrmshadow will consider making one. :)

Great idea! This could be a great early industrial transport ship.

Now where might aaglo be... :twitch:

"Naval"...? I thought these were usable only in rivers?

Yes aaglo, just like ironclads historically. Can you imagine taking an ironclad across an ocean? Those things only made it a few kilometres down a river before they were due for retirement. I suppose we should tag paddlewheels and ironclads with 'sinks in ocean'. But think of how cool these would look ingame. Delectable. Too bad there aren't passable rivers in the game.

While we're asking for paddlewheels, the Chinese used them in fairly large warships during the middle ages. They'd be an awesome addition to the Asian ships (almost an exact parallel to the Galleass actually)

I have some models but I did not want to make them

I've always thought an American Civil War scenario would work well with the major navigable rivers being Coastal tiles, with Ironclads et. al. sinking at Sea ...

I think that idea would do the job fairly well, although maybe making terrain slightly out of proportion.
