Keeping a positive balance in your income is a tricky situation until you get a good handle on how to do it... Hope this help... Khufu Nov 11, 2001, 11:07 PM Here are a few more tips on money: 1) Build roads on every terrain square that your city is producing on - this will give you one gold for every square. Ideally you want to have roads on every square around your city that is being worked by your citizens. Try to produce enough workers so that you always have at least one per city placing roads. That way as your population increases and more squares are worked, you'll keep the cash flowing in. 2) Adjust your tax/luxury/science rates. This can be done from the advisor screen (F1 key). If you need some quick cash, lower your research rate for a few turns. 3) Another way to make money is by raiding barbarian villages. Each village is worth 25 gold. 4) Trade luxuries or technologies for cash. The amount of money you can get for something will depend on who you're dealing with, their attitude towards you, their current needs, and other factors. 5) Advanced tip: If a few of your citizens are entertainers (either by choice or necessity), make them taxmen (money collectors) by clicking on their icon. Each taxman will give you an extra gold per turn. But be careful, if making this change makes more unhappy people than content people, your city will fall into civil disorder on the next turn. The best place to experiment with turning your entertainers into taxmen or scientists is from the advisor screen (F1 key). You can click on entertainers in each city and they will change into taxmen or scientists. From this screen you can also see what effect these changes are having on your income and science rate. |
