Hi,

The civfanatics ladder system is now almost a year old. With almost 1000 members and almost as many games played, i think it is a great success. We would like to expand our ladders with other games in the Sid Meijers series. Ladders however need a certain critical mass however in order to be successful. Therefor I like to see whether there is an interest for a ladder system in this game. So my question is:

Do you want to play competitive SMAC games for a tournament/ ladder?

I like the idea. I think it would be neat to have the SMAC section as active as the rest of the forums. I hope that there'll be interest in this.

Ladders need a certain critical mess you say? hmm :crazyeyes :crazyeyes :crazyeyes :crazyeyes

Critical mass I think you mean dear chap ;)

I'm afraid I don't think there is the interest here...certainly I think there is plenty of scope for more succession games...but I'm kinda busy at the moment :(

I am interested in any SMAC happenings, it is just that right now my board is fried so unless I am at work I am computerless. I am hoping to fix the computer probelm shortly, but I have been saying that for so long I am not sure when it will be fixed.

I haven't played MP before, and I'd jump at the chance. Yes please!

Yes well... I would certainly be interested, but the question is whether or not I'd have the necessary time to devote. Hmmh. It's worth looking into mind you, it definitely is.

I'm like Sukenis--I'm interested in any SMAC happenings. If we can't do Ladder games, I hope that we can at least do some more succession games. Maybe we can do it when folks aren't so busy.

What's the point of winning?

The fun is to see how large an empire you can create, and how totally you can crush your enemies without obliterating them.

Sometimes, it's also fun just to think about how you want to play your next SMAC game before starting. Planning sites for bases, strategies for pressing the game 'till the end and of course new units.

This is the reason I almost only play turnbased strategy, where I can do things in my own speed without thinking about the opponents all the time, like in real time games. Since I play at the easiest level, the AI players are kinda predictable too, so I don't have to bother with any loose-gun factions, either.

After all, the fun doesn't lie in winning; it's playing that's fun.
