View Full Version : A set of eight 3D animated African leaderheads (single era with pcxs)

Here is a themed set of eight single-era African leaderheads for use in scenarios. I thought that whilst era-specific leaderheads are nice to have, a lot of people are setting up single-era scenarios and conquests and lack the leaderheads to do them. Please note that they are all really generic African leaderheads, I've merely assigned names and civilizations to them as suggestions. I don't want this thread to get drawn into "Ethiopians never used that sort of shield" kind of discussions please.

I really hope this inspires an African conquest in the near future. Sojourner and Dinga Cisse are here - although the flc files are a mirror of the files in the era-specific threads, the pcx files have the foreign advisor pcx set up so that there is no change from era to era - ie it's as if it is a single-era leaderhead. If you need the same type of foreign advisor pcx for Shaka, there is one in the Mesoamerica conquest files.

Once I've finished the other leaderheads, there'll be a themed set of single-era Ancient Mediterranean leaderheads, and possibly sets of Middle-East and Native Americans.

I might do Moshoeshoe (my favourite out of these) and Nzinga as era-specific in the future :) .

cool, can you expand on the Mansa Musa head? i.e. make the other three eras?

Thanks, Kal-el - ok, as you're the first to ask, I'll do an era-specific Mansa Musa at some stage soon.

These are all great leaderheads R8XFT.Congratilations.

And do you plan to do any of them era specific?

Really excellent. I think the neglect of the African civilisations, especially Kongo, Ethiopia, Mali and Ghana by the official game is rather shameful, and I have been thinking it would be great to make a good African scenario of some kind. This is just what we need to kick that off.

I'm sure you're buried under requests - so one more won't hurt too much more!

I think the Nzinga leaderhead is an excellent candidate to expand to eras to make Congo a new civ for general mods!

That was already my intention.

As many of you know, Sojourner and Dinga Cisse are already era-specific (click on the links in my signature).

I've now done three eras for Mansa Musa, and have the fourth era almost done. I'll finish that off tomorrow, when I have some time. The other two that I'll make era-specific are Moshoeshoe and Nzinga.

I'm glad everyone who has posted likes the leaderheads. Thanks :goodjob: .

R8XFT, you're a beast! Maybe your next 'set' could be 20th Century American Presidents, or something? Or you could do the leaders of World War II Europe for SOE; I"m sure Recon would like that (I mean, the mod is already huge, another gig wouldn't hurt it :P) Or you could finish Malcom II, Justanian, Youcub, David, and thoes others from the R8XFT mod thread

I'm finishing those from the R8XFT mod thread before embarking on any other new ones.

It's a nice idea to do 20th Century figures, but, if I'm being honest, far easier to do leaderheads from further back in history - you don't need to be quite as accurate facially. Take the leaderheads in this thread - they're all really generic African leaderheads, with some clothes to match the leader I'm portraying. If we could look at pictures of the real Piankhi, Moshoeshoe et al, then I'd get plenty of comments about how inaccurate they were.

@Dann - I feel like I don't sleep sometimes :sleep:

People are influencing the creations via the R8XFT mod thread ;) .

I don't want to get too tied down doing leaderheads that I'm not interesting in using myself...that's what happens with request threads...also, people can be too insistant that "the hair is not quite right" and so on, that I'd sooner bring out the creations and have done with it :p .

I know how you feel. In the Mod Tech Tree Development Thread, Xen Badgered me for like Three Pages to give the Roman Legionary an Extra Hitpoint and keep the +1 Defense. I gave them the Hitpoint but put the defense down to two.. and he would not shut up about it. Hehehe

I'd love to - but having my leaderheads on Civfanatics means a couple of things:

1. Civfanatics is THE home for Civ, as far as I'm concerned. There's lots more people come here than would come to a site of my own. If you ever want to see anything that I've done, there's the leaderhead sticky thread in the Graphic Modpacks forum that contains links to all my works, as does my signature :) .

2. I don't have to pay anything ;) :D .

I've started to do Nzinga era-specific and Moshoeshoe will be done after that.

I'm glad you are picking up where you left of in the leaderhead making business.
The medieval Nzinga looks beautiful.
But can you change the background for the ancient one. It's to obvious a painting.
I'would would rather prefer a photo of an african village or something like that.

Antiochus VII
Jul 24, 2004, 05:57 AM
I agree - the leaderhead is great (one of the best of the Africans for sure and one I've been looking forward to) but the ancient background is definitely not your best choice :)

R8XFT
Jul 24, 2004, 08:23 AM
Aww!! If I change the ancient background, I have to do a new full set of pcxs  .

I'll do it though ;) . Thanks for the feedback.

Antiochus VII
Jul 24, 2004, 10:34 AM
I'm sorry - but if your leaderheads weren't so good that background wouldn't be such a contrast and we're greedy!

Do you have to redo ALL the PCX's? ONLY if you are doing this already, but would Nzinga be a medieval leader or an industrial leader (1582-1663)?

BUT I'll try to leave you something helpful here too rather than just asking for more! I ran onto these pics you may or may not have seen (you could do this for industrial perhaps if you wanted with medieval already done, but regardless, thanks for making this one) ...

Tell me about it - I've been choosing final civs based on these leaderheads WHICH brings me to the question...

Nzinga of Mtamba is 'correspondingly' in modern times (for a multi-era mod which won't be using Mtamba) Congo? (which was the dominant influence in the region politically, economically, etc during her period) or Angola? (the exact geographical region, even the name derives from 'ngola' the rulers title)

Aww man, just when I get started on King Alfonso... :joke:

Your Moshoeshoe & Nzinga are my favorite African leaderheads. Great to see these going era specific! Come to think of it, Nzinga is an even better choice than Alfonso. Drop me a PM if you need any help looking for props. Can't wait to add a SW African civ to my mod.

That's an acceptable opinion BUT if you're going to post anyway WHY don't you like them (if they're well done)? Constructive criticism is always useful but "I don't like them" isn't very helpful! Or is it just you don't have a place or use for them (you can't have more than 31 in use at the same time regardless :) )?
