Ok....so my windowsME computer is b0rked. I've given up trying to fix it, so I figure its time for me to format the bloody thing and start over.
However...ME doesnt want to boot to MSDOS so I can do it...I hold down f8 during startup...nothing. ctl....nothing. what else can I do? can I format without booting to dos?
thanks

I don't really know ME, but you should be able to format the drive in the setup process. Just start from your ME-CD and you should get an option to format the disk.

just gave that a shot...I cant format from the CD. i THINK I can reinstall windows over my old version, but that might not solve all my problems. id prefer an all out format. thanks tho

With the CD you cant format probably, but probably you can erase/create partitions, or not?

Just erase the partition, and create it again.

I guess not. I had forgotten however, that if I use a boot disk, the computer books to msdos, so I can format.
problem solved. thanks folks

I can't remember which, but IIRC there was one version of Windows that didn't allow boot-disks booting to DOS. Was that 2000?

I believe that was NT.

At least, I remember when I was stationed in Italy that we bought NT systems because they were "secure" that way.

Yeah, and people were jumping for joy when XP 'brought back' this feature. It was such a pain finding a Win98 machine to make a boot disk....

Problem is that its not actually 'true' MSDOS -> you can't use it to play DOS games for example. :(

That's why there's DosBox....
