Will Lance win again?
|
View Full Version : Tour de France delsully Jun 27, 2004, 10:09 PM Will Lance win again? JMK Jun 28, 2004, 01:07 AM Might be a bit more complicated this year as everyone is now aware about his pharmacopoeia practices. We will see. Darkness Jun 28, 2004, 04:26 AM I sure hope not... Nothing against Armstrong, but I think six TDF wins should remain something mythical. The greats of the past came up short, so why should Armstrong succeed? SanPellegrino Jun 28, 2004, 10:38 AM No, Armstrong gets weaker and Ullrich is pretty strong this year MCdread Jun 28, 2004, 11:18 AM I think Ullrich, Mayo, Hamilton and Heras will create an opposition like he never faced before. The course is also a bit different this year. I think he may not pull it this year. Speaking of Tour, and as it will start in a few days, anyone up for a reedition of our cycling competition? :) dgfred Jun 28, 2004, 11:25 AM I think this is the year for Ullrich to pass him ;) :scan: . Hitro Jun 28, 2004, 11:28 AM Speaking of Tour, and as it will start in a few days, anyone up for a reedition of our cycling competition? :) I was going to ask if you would organize that again... :mischief: SanPellegrino Jun 28, 2004, 11:36 AM Speaking of Tour, and as it will start in a few days, anyone up for a reedition of our cycling competition? :) of course :) MCdread Jun 28, 2004, 11:52 AM I was going to ask if you would organize that again... :mischief: Yeah, sure. :) Yaype Jun 28, 2004, 02:20 PM I do not think Armstrong is nearly as dominating as he was a few years ago, but his main opponents never seem to show up come TDF time. I am going with Armstrong to pull off the improbable six-pack. addiv Jun 28, 2004, 04:30 PM Yes, I think he'll pull it off. Serutan Jun 28, 2004, 04:35 PM Might be a bit more complicated this year as everyone is now aware about his pharmacopoeia practices. We will see. Are you referring to that book that once again makes doping allegations? It's interesting that for all the accusations and scrutiny, not one shred of hard evidence of Armstrong doping has ever surfaced... On topic, I think Lance can win. But it's not a given. I'm particularly interested to see how that time trial up Alpe d'Huez works out. delsully Jun 28, 2004, 10:29 PM I always say the best indication of future performance is past performance. Then again, age, allegations, and celebrity could just as easily take its toll. AVN Jun 29, 2004, 12:11 AM Speaking of Tour, and as it will start in a few days, anyone up for a reedition of our cycling competition? :) I will participate. :) OT : Armstrong isn't going to win, but I don't know yet who will win the Tour this year. Aggie Jun 29, 2004, 01:00 AM Armstrong will have to deal with pretty strong opponents this year. And those opponents will have stronger teams than Armstrong has. Ullrich, Mayo, Hamilton and Heras will be favorite (besides Armstrong). I think that Ullrich will win it. Shabbaman Jun 29, 2004, 03:34 AM Armstrong has a good chance, but last year he wasn't as convincing as previous editions. And although it doesn't mean anything for him, his performances so far were disappointing. Fool Inc. Jun 29, 2004, 03:48 AM I hope he does. Just for the fact that it pisses off the french. Vinaes Jul 04, 2004, 04:56 PM I hope he does. Just for the fact that it pisses off the french. I hope he dont, just because of the fact that it pissis of you! All kidding aside I think Jens Voight is going to suprise everyone and take home the Trphy to Bjarne and CSC Darkness Jul 05, 2004, 02:42 AM All kidding aside I think Jens Voight is going to suprise everyone and take home the Trphy to Bjarne and CSC Voigt can't climb. That will make it difficult, IMHO... ;) It will be either Ullrich or Armstrong, the others are all lacking in one way or another Mayo: TT comes up short (team TT will hurt too) Hamilton: The really tough mountains are usually too much for him Heras: bad TT Shabbaman Jul 05, 2004, 03:12 AM Well... The yellow jersey can give wings in time trials, so you never know. We've seen some crazy time trials, outside the tour as well. Vinaes Jul 05, 2004, 03:33 AM Voigt can't climb. That will make it difficult, IMHO... ;) It will be either Ullrich or Armstrong, the others are all lacking in one way or another That won't matter when my secret plan to rearrange the routes will kick in :mischief: Stapel Jul 06, 2004, 04:54 AM I wouldn't be surprised if Lance would win. 1. Lance winning will not piss of the French. It might happen here and there, but most French cyclism watchers love Lance. 2. Even if Lance wins 6 tours, he will not even come close to Eddy Merckx. Or Hinault for that matter. If Lance does win this tour, I hope he will focus on some spring classics next year. He already once speculated on helping Hincapie in Paris-Roubaix. But why not try to win it himself? If Lance will continue his career after a sixth tour victory, to collect some classic prizes, he might pass Hinault, but Merckx???? I guess not! He now has the age to do it, I think. |
