I was playing a nice and peaceful game of civ 3. That was until I used the goto command to move one of my battleships.

The batleship bumped right into an english submarine that it couldn't see when it started it's six square move (with magellan). I wasn't even asked to declare war! The battleship just crushed the english sub and kept moving as if nothing had happened.

And then the English activated all their mutual protection pacts!!!!

Suddenly I was in the middle of world war 1, just because of a renegade battleship commander:mad:

Might be, but that didn't make me feel any better when it happened to me. I suppose this is some kind of bug that you won't get the warning when a unit is ordered "goto".

It just happened once and I don't know if it can happen with any other unit than the submarine. I'll have to do some research there. After I finished my 4 wars that is :(

Isnt there a setting for that in the preferences? something like "cancel bla bla" at the bottom of the screen as far as I remember.

Hope it helps ;)

I seem to recall the opposite causing a major incident not too long ago (a US submarine accidentally ramming a Japansese fishing boat). The moral of the story? Battleships ain't too subtle

Is that how it works? A bug?

I thought an enemy Frigate, while escorting a caravel, saw and attacked my sub. I think it sank my sub too. I was extremely unhappy. Since how can a wooden vessel punch holes in a metal hull? Maybe the impact made all my sub's sailors so nautious that they died from drowning in their puke.

I had revenge next turn, since a nearby -=BATTLESHIP=- witnessed the entire ordeal. I just wondered how many units was in that caravel when I sank it? :p

They should let us know how many units sank with the ship, just like in the previous civ games.

SpacemasterDK is right. If you click on Preferences, you can click the box that says "Cancel Orders for Friendly Combat Unit". This will make your auto-moving unit stop before it misbehaves. ;)
