Greece vs Portugal

Whats your verdict?
Greece beat Portugal in the opening game of Euro 2004. Can the Greeks do it again?

I think they will win it.

I'm cheering for Portugal as always. Go Portugal!

(Although well done, Greece! :goodjob: )

I think, however, that Greece has a fair chance. They just keep surprising.

The Greeks were in last place of Portuguese preferences to the Final... at least in my opinion, because we lost with them, and they are to much defensive, and score when nobody expects....

It Will Be very hard, as a typical Portuguese, I say that we will loose.... but I hope we win it ;)

GO Portugal !!!

I didn't think they'd beat France, I didn't think they'd beat Czeck Republic and I don't think they'll beat Portugal. So I guess they have a good chance and I hope they do win.

Well, I'll make quite a bit of cash if Greece win (though not as much as I would have done if the Czechs had won...:)). But I'll have to be supporting Portugal...

Portugal has the host nation support--of course, that didn't help in game 1. I still think Portugal has this one in the bag.

I will do as I have done every match for Greece, bet against them  ,
so they will probably do as they have done for every match and WIN. :crazyeye:

0-0 at half time. The Portuguese started strong, but weren't able to make a quick goal. The game is balanced now and the Greeks play well, in the style we have seen a lot from them in this tournament. I'm amazed that the Greek supporters in the stadium are cheering louder than the Portuguese!

I think the Greeks played more offensive than usual, at least after 15 minutes or so. And during the last 15 minutes they completely controlled the game. Portugal need to regain confidence and do more for the game.

It´s being very being very dificult as I thinked, Greece defend very well, Ronaldo an Figo cant pass by both sides.... I hope in second half we can do better.

I think Greece will do it. The only 'chances' Portugal seem to be getting are shots from 25 yards or crosses straight to the keeper..

We must be watching two different games. But I must say that the Greeks are playing better again, although they are only defending now.

The Portuguese are making pretty runs, but they are not actually achieving anything. The Greek keeper has spilled a few shots though, making me think he is pretty dodgy.

The only run i can think of that has been successful in the second half is Ronaldo's and his shot was waaay over.

'ave it Greece :D

EDIT: Well, they defeated the strongest nations in Europe and Portugal twice. Portugal played badly, but this is surely due to Greece's approach.

Although he probably wasn't the brightest person in the stadium - there are only nets on the field - each only spanning about 11 metres of the ends. And yet he runs right into one of them, acting surprised to find it right in front of him...

And Harry scored the decisive goal in the EURO final, in some way the final touch on an unbelievable season.

Well, we lost, but I am not sad, we leave behind one of best euros of all times, we have always party, we contructed a flag with flowers today, we had support to the team in the way to the stadium, airplains, boats, horses. Fair Play, great attendence in games, and bunch of other things I dont remember now.

Congrats to Greece, they play better than Italy!!!(comparable in the type of game IMO).

Congrats To Portugal also for effort of the team, they believed all the way, with the support of all our population, even who dont care about football couldnt be quiet. And the organization, the best!!

The music of Nelly Furtado, the best also!!

So many things good to say, I am so Happy and Proud :) Go Portugal :)

We are in party even losing, because we did our best :)

You were loving your team but you weren't despising other teams. You were fair-play and it's great to see Portuguese celebrating tonight their beautiful team. Cause your team is beautiful and your country is also beautiful. :)

Ehehe, she never talks in Public, but she talked one time and she said the husband was a cherne (a fish very tasty and more expensive) ehehehe So she is very human ;)

One Person that is very human also is Scolari, He bringed union to the team by heart!!! and he motivated all Portuguese also, bringing the Brazilian joy to this team and Portugal ;)

That (the cherne thing) was the wife of the prime minister (soon to be pesident of the European Comission), not the First Lady.

Yeah, even if he's no tactical genious (on the contrary), he's still a great motivator, and that's why we were at the final.

I think when Marla said the First Lady she was talking about the wife of The Prime Minister, because she was the only one I saw waving the flag ;) A little confusion ;)

The First Lady was wearing one :)

Congratulations to Greece :goodjob:. That must have been the biggest surprise in sports history since Sjarapova beat Serena Williams in the Wimbledon final :p. Okay, I'm a bit cynical here, but after the semi-finals I thought Greece had a more than decent chance to clinch it.

I guess a country that beats France, the Czech Republic and such a strong home nation as Portugal twice, deserves to win it. Strong defence and a phenomenal efficiency by the strikers won them the title. The nearly absolute similarity between the 3 goals in the last 3 matches is amazing.

In retrospect, Spain should be proud of its draw against Greece .
