After a long hiatus from civ, I am back with a Conquest-compatible PC :). This SG will be a deity level game, but one opponent has been modified to compete at Sid level. After all of the trouble X-man has caused in other Civ games, I thought it would be appropriate to make Persia the “tough opponent”.

Difficulty: Deity*
Software: C3C 1.22
Civ: Celts
Landmass: Standard ~65% water (custom pangaea)
Barbarians: Roaming
Varient Rules: All “Sid” wonders must be razed. Elimination of Persia counts as a win.
Game Rules: RBCiv

About the Map

The map is ~80% randomly generated, but I have boosted the natural resource appearance ratio to about pre-conquest levels. The map will not look too unnatural, but Persia’s start location has been modestly enriched ;). There are several rule changes including the removal of lethal land bombard from bombers and a tech rate between Deity and Sid, but most of them affect only Persia. Because I designed the map, I will skip the first rotation and also slot last in the roster to prevent foreknowledge from being too much of a factor.

Sid Bonuses

Even a modest Sid civ can shred multiple Deity AI civs at once. I’ve given Persia bonuses such that they might not have to same research or pure numerical power as a Sid civ, but will eventually exceed one in production and combat ability. Basically, Persia’s growth, commerce (in leu of research), and production have been boosted by about 50% using unique wonders, improvements, and the Agricultural trait. They have been given unique unit versions of the guerilla and TOW, and they have been given early access to light bombers and armies. Unit support has been boosted by Sid versions of Despotism, Monarchy, and Republic. For details, see the attachment.

No interest? :hmm:
Perhaps there are too many "hard" games going on at this point, or there are too many modification in this one? If it makes any difference, in test debug games there were over a half dozen pentagon-enhanced AI armies cruising around by the early industrial age. Quite a rarity in C3C I hear :). Maybe the start location will attract more takers.

Too many difficult games is definitely part of the problem. I know I was tempted by more than one and am now hoping I didn't make a mistake by joining too many. It will probably be several months before I realistically could start a new SG.

Hi Zwingli,

Unfortunately I'm up to my SG limit so I can't really join :(

I'll be watching with interest though :)

This is a really interensting idea, but even if I wouldn't been full atm, I fear it would be a bit beyond my level. I'll subsribe for sure and hope it starts!

Welcome back, Zwingli. :) I'm afraid this is another, interesting-but-no-thanks post. I'm on an SG break. I've limited myself to playing the GOTM games (including the SGOTM) and even that is taxing my RL time more than it should. I hope to be back in business end of August.

Well, it looks like the SG forum is currently saturated with tough games. Just looking at all the SGs with "AW" or "Sid" or "XCC" somewhere in their name, I think it would be best to put this one on hold for awhile. I'll be lurking or showing up in open SGs for now :)

In case anyone is interested, I have included the scenario save for 4000 BC in the first post. I might be returning to this one at some point though, so don't play ahead if you want to avoid spoilers ;).

Well,

I have to say I'm both pleased & disappointed that this game hasn't got off the ground. Pleased because it means I might get to play it after all :) and disappointed as I won't have the vicarious pleasure of watching a group of highly skilled players getting a thrashing :D

Ok, I'll reserve you a spot whenever this gets off the ground :) Here is a test biq (scenario) with a beefed up Germany on a random map. I've given them yet another settler in this version to make up for having a non-enhanced start position, but it should be somewhat easier than the final Persian version.
