Do we want a custom map for DemoGame 5?
Yes-We do want one.
No-We don't want one

A custom map is where someone that wont play in DG5, creates an interesting map and we play it.

This poll will be open for 5 days.

Beyond simply having one, I propose that the custom map have the luxuries distributed in clumps near starting points, so one civilization has a monopoly, which would make trade and foreign policy more interesting.

I would want to know who is making the map before I voted YES in this poll. I could volunteer to make the map...:) That way I would know the map information didn't get around to any players.

Epimethius, there are only 8 luxuries. How many tribes were you thinking about starting in DG5? Good idea, but I don't know if it's possible.

I guess if I made the map, Cyc would be voting 'no'. :mischief: Although, we could have an outside source make the map (thegreyfox for example).

I dont think we should, it could end up with the map maker revealing all the secrets, for instance where future resources are going to be.

Not if the mapmaker doesn't say where the resources are. I made the map for an ISDG at MZO, and have yet to reveal anything.

I agree with BCLG100 (welcome back, BG). It's just to risky. I will do it and not play, but I wasn't satisfied with the Map/Options integrity of DG1 (supposedly put together by Greyfox, CT's buddy).

I will probably vote NO at the end of the 5 days.

Yer but ir we do the map maker route then if it is a demogamer, they dont play. if however someone else makes it they could drop subtle hints or let on in other accidental ways.

Like I said, I would volunteer to do the map and not play. I have enough respect for the game to keep things honest.

Yes but then surely we lose one of the very few contributers to the demogame.

To provide more luxuries, we could also do it for uranium, aluminum, saltpeter, oil, and rubber. And any player that tries getting information from our objective designer gets kicked out.

I still think its a bad idea, besides if a custom map was to be made would it not be more fun if there were less luxuries and resources and therefore increase the value of them.

I could always make the map. I ave high experience with the editor and everything in it. I also am more likely to strengthen our enemies than strengthen us unfairly.

In general I am opposed, though if asked I could make the map.

well it looks like there will be no need to at the moment as not custom is 3 votes up.

Dammit. I thought the resource monopoly idea would really shake this thing up.

alas we will have to go with random then ;) , unless 4 other people want to vote.(dont) heres wishing we start with some tundra, what a fun game that would be.

There are many paople withholding their vote for more information on who and how the map is made. Cyc hasn't voted, I haven't voted and there could be others.

The one making the map is immediately blocked from joining in most parts of the game, but not all. The Judiciary for instance is a possible job for the mapmaker.

We can very easily ask someone who isn't even a part of the demogame (and has no interest -- or lost interest in joining). For example, we could let Greyfox make a map. He hasn't been in the demogame since DG1, and isn't going to return.

Well, I recently started a game on a Huge Pangea 80% map, and the luxuries magically sorted themselves out to be unique to each continent (mine, Asia, got wines, while Persia/Zululand got incense), so I guess there's hope.
