View Full Version : Ministries Poll II: 5 v 6

The fact is, if we're going to have a bunch of polls on who gets to move workers, and other such ministry-based decisions, I figure we should first know what ministries we're going to have. We do have a poll on this already, but its pick-and-choose system does not seem too encouraging. We might end up without a domestic, but with three different people running financial. So I figured we should simply have a vote on the two proposals. Ravenfire's was essentially the same as Dave's so I left it out. If that one wins, I suppose a run off within the five ministry ones.

This poll will last five days. Quite long, seems to me, but that seems like the best number. The choice with the majority at the end of that period will win, and that basic system will be adopted (though things like control of the workers can be changed around as decided in those polls.) Note that people can see your choice, so if you've never been heard of you may be disqualified, especially if you voted against me. Lesson is: make your presence known.

To make things work best, each proposal's creator can defend his idea, pointed out why it should be chosen.

DaveShack's/Streamlined/Five Minister Proposal

1. The Minister of Internal Affairs shall be
responsible for all domestic and cultural
initiatives, as prescribed by law.
2. The Minister of Foreign Affairs shall be responsible
for matters involving treaties with foreign nations,
as prescribed by law.
3. The Minister of Defense shall be responsible for all
military strategy and troop activities, as
prescribed by law.
4. The Minister of Trade and Technology shall be
responsible for all tech acquisition and trade
initiatives, as prescribed by law.
5. The Minister of Finance and Labor shall be responsible
for the allocation of monies in all forms except as part
of trades which fall under the authority of the Minister
of Trade and Technology; and for prioritization of
worker tasks and assignment of workers to tasks.

Epimetius'/Game Advisorl/Six Minister Proposal

1. The Minister of Domestic Affairs (Minidom) shall be
responsible for all domestic initiatives, as well as
the distribution of funds (slider settings), as

as prescribed by law.
3. The Minister of Defense (Miniwar) shall be responsible for all
military strategy and troop activities, as
prescribed by law.
4. The Minister of Trade (Minicom) shall be responsible for all
trade, domestic and foreign, and the use of resources,
as perscibed by law.
5. The Misister of Technology (Minitech) shall be responsible for
all tech acquisition, as prescribed by law.
6. The Minister of Culture (Minicult) shall be responsible for the
keeping of the peace, naming of cities, and the
construction of wonders.

Newspeak names added to mine for the hell of it. :p

Other ideas can be proposed, though putting them into the poll seems like a hassel.

EDIT: I have remove the sections not pretaining to the ministers themselves, to clarify that this is not a vote on the articles, simply on the number of ministers (which takes up 90% of the articles). It doesn't even cover their entire jobs.

i object to this poll

this is basically voting on the article for the executives....we still have more discussing and other polls: especially this one:

Its not voting on an article for the executive. We're going through the executive and doing it piece by piece, like with governors, workers, deputies, etc. This one is on the ministers. Their powers will not necessarily be those shown, because they could be changed around (like with worker control). I have edited it so only the parts shown are those effected, rather than the whole articles.

Unfortunately, I'm very tired right now, so I'm delaying my explanation of why the 6 minister system is better until tomorrow.

6 ministers!

With every executive post we create, we get happy citizens and more people implied in the demogame.

Go for 6.

Among the other advantages to polling this way, it will tell us what offices we have to run for. So by tomorrow we'll have that all figured out and ready for the elections.

I don't really think a defense of the 6 Minister system is necessary at this point, but the idea is that it will involve more people of varying competance and involvement in the game. Even if you can only come on once every few days you could be Tech Minister.

I vote "other" == 7 ministers, the 6 in-game advisors and a finance & labor minister.

I prefer the current 5-minister system, really. The last thing we need is more elected positions.

Actually, that's just what we need for participation.

We also need these damn ruleset issues settles very soon, or being able to play the game at all will be the problem rather than participation when everyone leaves sick of all this ridiculous debating.

Hmm, Dave's 7-Minister system presents a problem. We could repoll if, say, two other people say they support it over the other two.

And the point of this is to make participation easier, by opening high-level positions up to new or busy people with the addition of low-maintenance positions. It'll also garuntee I'll participate, since I intend to be culture minister. :p

The poll is now closed. When put up for ratification, Article D (I think) will have the above listed six ministries. The powers held by the ministries can still be changed (like who controls workers), but the above is the default. And a Minister of Labour (minilab) could be added in a later poll, I guess.

Woohoo, I have a chance at the job I want! :p

Since DG5 is starting, the winner of this poll will be used for noms.
