Hi all,
Here's my situation, I would love it if someone could offer some advice, as well as explaination.

Playing as Americans, just got modern armor, got my army together....
been in war with the bablyons for about 5 turns, they initiated it, but haven't really attacked or anything, since they're really far away (on different continent). It was over a demand of offering I refused.

Anyways, So I got my army ready, and I'm ready to take over the continent, my neighbor is the Iroquis, they're furious with me... and I moved my troops in, and they asked me to move, and I didn't... so I decleared war on them.

Things are looking fine, got about 12 modern armors rolling in almost to the capital, ready to mow them down. All of a sudden, adviser tells me that my people have turned over democracy... wtf???? Cuz about half of my cities were in WLTPD the turn before, and none of my cities even complained about being at war... only a few iroquis citizens complained about agression aagainst their mother country. So what the hell caused the government overthrow?? I think I was at war with them for about 5 turns at most. I tried to load back and make peace with the babs, so that I'm only at war with one country... didnt' work.... any ideas?????

I hear ya. I like democracy but when somone else declares war on you and it takes a while (not a blitz) to crush them, you could end up witnessing your civ just crumbling from the unhappiness, riots, etc.

frustrating aint it?

Here's an idea!

If a Civ declares war on you, then you can attack and wage war against them until you decide to sue for peace. With minimal war weariness.

If you declare war on other Civs (either through MPP or directly) then you get smacked with war wariness.

How's that?!

As soon as you get involved in war while in republic or demo you get war weariness unhappies. It takes effect immediately. You need to go in and raise luxries and/or hire entertainers before ending the turn.It increases each turn.Even with police stations and Universal Sufferage. The effect is lessened if your units are fighting in your cultural territory.
In my current game,I have to raise luxuries to 40 or 50% despite having big fat cities with all the goodies and Sufferage. It is the handicap of demo and repub.

smash, does that actually prevent any uprisings (and stoppage of production etc.)?

I ask because I thought war weariness can't really be curtailed with luxury/entertainers since it is different than simple unhappiness.

thanks in advance

I realize that democracy is really sensitive to war... thus I increased my lux to like 70, and all my cities were in WLTPD, that's why I'm perplexed! There was absolutely NO warning whatsoever, it went from all happy faces to government overthrow... :( any ideas? Is there anywhere you can check on the status of your war weariness besides people being happy?

war weariness can't really be curtailed with luxury/entertainers

yes it can..in a way.You can create more happy citizens with luxuires and/or specialists.
ie..you have a size 10 city with 6 happys and 4 contented.War hits and immediately some of the citizens will change form happys and contented to contented and unhappy. You raise luxuries to make sure you have at least 2 more happys then unhappys.2 more cuz each turn it increases. You make your adjustments before the problem.Same way you kept cities from disorder when growing a population point in civ2.
