View Full Version : Civilization Naming, Part 1

The original idea was to do this after the constitution is ratified, but it seems to me everyone wants to rush, so I say we do it now. Just propose names and after three days or so we'll have a poll of all the proposals (max 20), narrowing it down to a few. After that we'll take the finalists and do a second poll, narrowing it down to the one final name.

Our civilization is the Japanese. Previous names have all be variations on "Fanatica." So take that into consideration.

Proposed Names:
1.Japanatica (Japanachica)
2.Fanatese (Fanacheas)
3.Nihon (Nihon)
4.Apathetica (Apathechica)
5.Fanatchika (Fanachika)
6.Fanatikaurai (Fanachikaurai)
7.Fanatika (Fanachika)
8.Fanatica (Fanachica)
9.Nipponika (Nipponika)
10.Fanatyama (Fanachyama)
11.Bonzaika (Bonzaika)
12.Japan (Japan)
13.Zarnia (Zarnia)
14.Abstainia (Abstain)

We simply can't have one of those polls without the omnipresent Fanatika and Fanatica, can't we?

I'd like to hear any ideas Serevok or CT have, because I recall they actually speak Japanese. :p

ぼくは 日本語 をはなします!

I personally would rather stick with Fanatica, though Nihon ( 日本 ) I have no problem with. Im not good with names anyway :p

BTW, Its Sarevok damn it! Not Serevok!

That would be too lame for a great Demogame like this that has been discussed on rules and stuff for so long... ;)

Erm.. how about "Japan"? :)

I was going to say that, but then I saw your post.

We can always call it Zarnia...

I would go with Japanatica.

Thanks for the correction, Cyc. Always were way too good at catching my typos!

Apathetica, definetly! Really evocative of the current Demogame spirit. Japanatica is good too though.

Thats kind of how I feel too. I could care less what were called so long as well can execute out enemies (with me as MD of course ;) )

-san is a name suffix for people, not countries. Plus, in Japan, it is considered rude to refer to yourself with -san (or -kun, -chan, -sama, etc) after your name.

Another note on Japanese words.

1 - There's no l, just r.
2 - There's no Ti, just chi (although you could represent 'ti' in katakana script).
3 - If you want to use romaji (English equivalent), use correct notation. (i.e. Toukyou. Not Tokyo, or Tookyoo).

I still like Japanatica.

In light of Chieftess's grammatical lesson, I've put what should be vague Japanizations of the various names up there.

I have to admit, I like Japanatica and Apathetica too.

Anyone else, or shall we advance with the 13 (plus abstain) names?

Cyc

Can you please make it a public voting poll. I seriously doubt anyone will lose any friends by voting on the name of the nation. ;)

Donovan Zoi
Jul 22, 2004, 08:36 PM
Should it be multi-choice at first? With a runoff for the top vote-getters?

This way everyone can initially vote for any name they would be happy with in the beginning, rather than having to choose between two favorites.

Cyc

Can you run a public voting poll that's also multiple choice? I haven't tried that yet.

Yeah, we have done that in the ISDG a few times. It works. :)
