Cyc Jul 09, 2004, 01:54 AM This thread is pretty much a milestone or place marker, whatever.
We completed DG4 about 5 weeks ago. We decided to play Japan about 3 weeks ago. We are considering having Elections in less than three more weeks. We've worked very hard to get as far as we have.
I am now declaring naptime. Everyone that takes a good nap gets a candy later. After naptime, we need to complete the workings of our Constitution and figure out how to open the start of the next Demogame.
Time flies like an arrow and fruit flies like bananas. So, what say we avoid the slippery slopes and get this thing wrapped up. ;)
Sarevok Jul 09, 2004, 05:55 AM shouldnt we get all this legal crap over with first? I cant sleep when I have stuff to do...
BCLG100 Jul 09, 2004, 11:44 AM For a brief shining moment there i thought someone was declaring the ed to all this legal BS, then i saw the 4 threads or so above this still going strong.
couldnt we just cut the legal crap and start the game right now??? im sure like the 10 or so people activly participating would be a bit dissappointed but everyone else, and by everyone else i mean everyone not involved, is getting really bored and just wants something to happen.
Cyc Jul 09, 2004, 01:16 PM We should get all this legal stuff worked out quickly. People voicing their opinions in no uncertain terms is what we need. Let's get some compromises going here and ratify some Articles. We need to work the disagreements out on paper, building a progressive Article in each instance.
We can't start DG5 the same way we started DG4 (without a completed rule set).
argon Jul 09, 2004, 03:19 PM hello

Epimethius Jul 09, 2004, 05:29 PM Horray, Nap Time! *falls over*
I suppose this would be a really good time to give the Direct Democracy game another shot.
CivGeneral Jul 09, 2004, 09:53 PM I hope DG 5 I would make a comeback and be totaly redeamed :D.
Epimethius Jul 11, 2004, 11:31 AM So shouldn't we be stopping discussion for a while? Isn't that what was meant by nap time? ;)
Sarevok Jul 11, 2004, 04:04 PM So shouldn't we be stopping discussion for a while? Isn't that what was meant by nap time? ;)
The "call for nap-time" is a flop.
Black_Hole Jul 11, 2004, 04:54 PM So shouldn't we be stopping discussion for a while? Isn't that what was meant by nap time? ;)
what world do you live in?
Epimethius Jul 11, 2004, 05:08 PM I just never like passing up an opertunity (one of those things you temporarily forget how to spell) for a nap. Same with shrimp and cheese grits and cheesecake.
Besides, it would give my Direct Democracy Game idea a viable second chance.

u seem to have to post in every topic somehow to get ppl to play that ;)
Cyc Jul 13, 2004, 12:48 AM Naptime is over people, let's get to work. ;)
BCLG100 Jul 13, 2004, 10:30 AM I think people actually took this nap time thing to heart, there has been less constitution discussions.
i dont know how to say this, hell i dont want to tempt fate but have we finnally finished with the rule set???? can we finnally start the game???
Cyc Jul 20, 2004, 12:40 AM I have finally come up with the answer! And we can start immediately! :king:
Let's play the Demogame Preparation Game! See for yourself, it's a success. We have endless debates...lasting for months with no CCs/PIs or JRs. Minimal Moderator action, lots of voting :goodjob: and a miriad of new creative ideas. :D
Well, heck. We could probably stretch out this rule thing for another couple of months, which could be seen as the normal length of a quick Demogame.
If CT's adamant about having elections in 4 days, we could elect Stuck or Epimethius as Head Waiter. That person could appoint a whole Department of Deputy Waiters (other people who are anxiously waiting for the completion of the Demogame Preparation).
Instead of Turn Chats, we could have barnstorming sessions. No time limit. And the barnstorming attendees could call a halt to it anytime they wanted! Think of it. We've created our own monster game...
Let's think of a better name than the Demogame Preparation Game and get this thing under way, waddaya say? ;)
Chieftess Jul 20, 2004, 04:55 AM Game of Bueracracy?
BCLG100 Jul 20, 2004, 08:02 AM hells kitchen??? non Uk'ers might not get it.
Ankka Jul 20, 2004, 08:34 AM I didn't get the idea of that. :hmm:
Immortal Jul 20, 2004, 10:12 AM Yay! I had naptime yesterday.
Im happy to see everything has started taking a much faster pace within the last 24 hours.
Cyc Jul 20, 2004, 10:58 AM The Game of Bureaucracy...I like that. ;)
Stuck_as_a_Mac Jul 20, 2004, 11:25 AM We can be the Red Tapers of DC. We'd have to play as America or England, of course, as no other democratic (as they say) civ would admit to such a screwed up system!
Cyc Jul 20, 2004, 11:48 AM  There ya go. And for role-playing we could all wear poofy wigs, strap a plank to our spine, and hold a turd under our nose so we could make face like Margret Thatcher.
Stuck_as_a_Mac Jul 20, 2004, 01:39 PM While were at it, we might as well just appoint Kennith Starr to the post of CJ so we can always have a fresh batch of things to PI.
Now whos willing to play Clinton to Starr?
Epimethius Jul 20, 2004, 05:42 PM I'll be Clinton!
*runs off in search of interns* :p
Cyc Jul 22, 2004, 12:40 AM Ok, people I just went through the polls and averaged out the number of voters for the last 30 polls.
Our most recent 10 polls (keep in mind that a couple of them are still open) had an average of 18 voters each. I combined 2 of Noldo's polls as one of them was closed early and had no botes.
The next 10 polls back had an average of 19.5 voters each. This was due to the 2 polls for the chat-goers halting the chats. One had 30 voters  and the other had 25. This raised the average up some.
The last group of 10 polls had an average of 17 voters, so it seems our voting base is improving somewhat. So basically we averaged 18 voters per poll for the last 30 polls.
Now...with the Nominations coming up, we should be looking at our elected Offices. The President/DP and Vice President makes 2. The six council members make 8 and their Deputies make 14. The 3 Justices make 17. Seventeen positions to be filled.
This means pretty much everyone gets a job. To make this election process a little easier, why don't we post below what positions we'd like to have. This would make Nominations and voting go a lot smoother. As this is the first election of the game, anyone can run for President. Same with all of the other Offices. If you're new to the game hang on and maybe choose a ballot that doesn't have that many people in it. Or go for broke, it's up to you. Just have fun.
According to this poll (http://forums.civfanatics.com/showthread.php?t=93790) anyone can run for more than one Office, but don't over-extend yourself or get too annoying. ;)
I've listed the Offices below. Please post below if you are interested in running for one or more of them. I'm not sure if their will be a Minister of Labor and Finance, but if you're interested in it put that down too. Thanks!

DaveShack Jul 22, 2004, 01:16 AM Aren't we doing noms two days from now anyway?
I'm thinking about running for President, Governor, and CJ, but may limit it to only one depending on how the other noms go.
CivGeneral Jul 22, 2004, 01:21 AM I have been planning to try my hand in the FA department, Ill sign up for that one.
Immortal Jul 22, 2004, 01:50 AM Before I say anything I want to thank Cyc for giving us an idea of quorum. Thanks for your hard work Cyc, Ill remember what you've done for the nation when its time for elections.

Gotta stop watching Da Ali G Show marathons
Fier Canadien Jul 22, 2004, 09:19 AM I'd be interested in culture.
(remembers the nothingness of that position in late DG3 and hopes that it now have a power...)
Cheetah Jul 22, 2004, 12:43 PM Sign me up for Governor for now. :)
About that: In the start of the game, could we not have one governor per city? And as the nation grows, governors will get more and more cities to control?
Noldodan Jul 22, 2004, 12:50 PM Put me down for Domestic and Governor.
Immortal Jul 22, 2004, 12:51 PM :whew: I was beginning to be concerned nobody wanted the domestic position.
Ankka Jul 22, 2004, 12:52 PM I can go for domestic. :p
What does he do?
Also a governor would be ok..
Stuck_as_a_Mac Jul 22, 2004, 12:52 PM while were at it, why not try to do the 5cc...
Cyc Jul 22, 2004, 01:10 PM while were at it, why not try to do the 5cc...
Hey! Who let that penquin loose in here?
I don't think we should have one Governor per city or reconsider the failed 5cc idea. We might want to consider a second Province after 5 cities, though.
Immortal Jul 22, 2004, 01:12 PM was 5 or 7 the consensus this time around? Why am I thinking 7 is?
Ankka Jul 22, 2004, 01:16 PM How about governor per city until we have 5 cities, after that there wil be provinces?
Immortal Jul 22, 2004, 01:19 PM first we need to see how many citizens we have, if we dont have enough to fill 25 governmental positions, we may have to stick to 1 governor.
Ankka Jul 22, 2004, 01:29 PM 25 governmental positions? :wow:
Cyc Jul 22, 2004, 01:31 PM Well said, Immortal.
Immortal Jul 22, 2004, 01:34 PM 22 positions actually.
3 judiciary
14 Cabinet (leader, pres, VP, deputies)
5 governor positions (1 per city)
okay 22... close enough.
Cheetah Jul 22, 2004, 02:19 PM How about we divide the number of cities on the number of people who wants to be Governors? :)
Stuck_as_a_Mac Jul 22, 2004, 02:40 PM 5cc provinces that have set agendas? a military province, a culture province, ect?
BCLG100 Jul 22, 2004, 03:14 PM instead of calling the original governers, governers could we call them mayors, as they are after all only looking after there 1 city, plus i like mayors they add extra excitment to the game :)
Immortal Jul 22, 2004, 03:23 PM How about we divide the number of cities on the number of people who wants to be Governors? :)
every election cycle? every week? every time a new person wants in/out?
Little more specific if possible pleze :)
Immortal Jul 22, 2004, 03:24 PM instead of calling the original governers, governers could we call them mayors, as they are after all only looking after there 1 city, plus i like mayors they add extra excitment to the game :)
Whoa, did I miss this vote? I sure as hell wouldnt have voted in favour of creating that kind of bureaucracy!
BCLG100 Jul 22, 2004, 03:40 PM huh, no i mean to begin with when we have few cities.
well instead of calling the initial people who set the build queues governers as they will only be looking after one city apiece could we call them mayors, think of it as a perssonnel request.
Immortal Jul 22, 2004, 03:47 PM We already have 17 government positions, if we added 5 more thats 22 starting governmental positions.
Quorum at this time is 18, Im not in favour of this as of yet, I think we should stick to elected governors as they have been done in the past. Expanded with need.
Cheetah Jul 22, 2004, 04:28 PM What I meant was that we can divide the number of cities on the number of people who wants to be governors every election cycle, but only for the beginning of the game, as it later out would be very time- and work-consuming to redraw province borders.
Let me give an example:
1 city: No need for Governor I think, so we'll just let it be?
2 cities: 1 or 2 Governors, depending on how much work the Domestic Minister wants.
3 to 5 Cities: 1 to 5 Governors
6 to 12 Cities: 2 to 4 Governors
13 and up: 5 cities per Governor
Cyc Jul 22, 2004, 04:42 PM Come on, People. Only 9 of you have posted which position you're considering running for. In the long run this will help with Nominations and Elections. Go to this post and read it (http://forums.civfanatics.com/showpost.php?p=2027228&postcount=27) and then come back here to tell us what you're considering running for (or will run for).
Cheetah Jul 22, 2004, 04:58 PM Since this looks like a thread where one can take up some random ideas one don't know where else to post, I'll just like to suggest this:
Since we plan to have an RPG inside the rest of the game, wouldn't it be better if we said that all forum members who registered in the citisen registry are not citisens of Nationname, but Officials, Senators, Generals?, Barons or something else to distinguish us from the normal population in the Civ game?
Calling us citisens just seems a bit weird when we are only 20-50 people, and there are millions of people in Nationname...
BCLG100 Jul 22, 2004, 05:45 PM the new forums are up now anyways :)
Cyc Jul 22, 2004, 06:43 PM Since this looks like a thread where one can take up some random ideas one don't know where else to post, I'll just like to suggest this:

Would that be Shogun?
Epimethius Jul 22, 2004, 07:01 PM How about we do geographical provinces of varying sizes? Borders in seas, mountains, jungles, etc. Its not even, but it allows for varying levels of participation.
A lot of posting happened since I was last on. I'm not even to sure if we're still talking about this. :p
Cheetah Jul 23, 2004, 07:13 AM Would that be Shogun?
A Shogun would be more like an Emperor, and I don't think we can have 30+ of those in the same nation. :p
But does my idea have some merit? It would require to change a word some places in the constitution, but I feel it would be more correct than to call us citisens.
