Do we want to stick with Tokugawa when creating the game, or name our in-game ruler something else?

View Full Version : Ruler name DaveShack Jul 24, 2004, 06:03 PM Do we want to stick with Tokugawa when creating the game, or name our in-game ruler something else? Cyc Jul 24, 2004, 06:27 PM Tokugawa is honorable enough for me. Sarevok Jul 24, 2004, 08:13 PM Definetly Tokugawa :) BCLG100 Jul 24, 2004, 08:57 PM well i guess its alright, i would of preferred BCLG100 or BCLG or even Tokugawa AKA bclg/bclg100 maybe we can poll it ;) Falcon02 Jul 24, 2004, 09:01 PM GODZILLA seriously.... Tokugawa blackheart Jul 24, 2004, 10:10 PM What's the word for ruler or emperor in Japanese? Civanator Jul 24, 2004, 10:57 PM I think Shogun is, and Tokugawa is like a higher rank of shgunate. How about Tokugawa Godzilla? ;) Falcon02 Jul 24, 2004, 11:06 PM Shogun is more like a Warlord for quite some time there was both a Shogun and an Emporer of Japan The Shogun having more political and Military Power, while the Emperor (at the time) had mainly Religious Power, as he was seen as a God on Earth. Sarevok Jul 24, 2004, 11:36 PM I think Shogun is, and Tokugawa is like a higher rank of shgunate. How about Tokugawa Godzilla? ;) No, Shogun is the official title for military ruler of Japan. Tokugawa is reffering to the general Tokugawa Ieyasu (1543-1616) who unified Japan after 150 years of civil war known as the Sengoku Era. His victory at Sekigahara in 1600 led to him becoming Shogun of Japan in 1603 and his heirs would rule as shogun until 1867. Ankka Jul 25, 2004, 02:08 AM I think Hirohito sounds better. :p :joke: Tokugawa is fine. Octavian X Jul 25, 2004, 02:24 AM "Octavian" has a nice ring to it... or Tokugawa. Furiey Jul 25, 2004, 03:45 AM Tokugawa is fine for me as the name. But some of the posts above have raised another question - what of the title? We forgot about this in DG4 and chose Civver as a spur of the moment decision in the Creation Chat - hence we had "We Love the Civver Day". Ankka Jul 25, 2004, 05:32 AM I think "The Great Shogun of the Great Nation of Aphatatica" sounds good. :p Provolution Jul 25, 2004, 05:51 AM I think "The Great Shogun of the Great Nation of Aphatatica" sounds good. :p I would go for Tokugawa, after getting a hint. ;) yet the previous comment was an ironic joke. Sarevok Jul 25, 2004, 06:04 AM I would go for Meiji, in honor of the Emperor who modernized Japan and made it a global power. Tokugawa is just a warlord like Rashid Dostum and Khun Sa. Do you want to take that remark back? I have mountains of info to prove the contrary. (though im not exactly willing to waste my time doing so) Comnenus Jul 29, 2004, 10:38 PM I propose Oda Nobunaga, greater, I think, than Tokugawa. Tokugawa could probably not have succeded in his unification if not preceded by Nobunaga. Nobunaga biography (http://www.wsu.edu:8080/~dee/TOKJAPAN/ODA.HTM) Tokugawa biography (http://www.samurai-archives.com/ieyasu.html) Comnenus Jul 29, 2004, 10:40 PM Another great choice would be: Himura Kenshin, Hitokiri Battousai Provolution Jul 29, 2004, 10:42 PM I would like Dave-Toryo, which is a variation of Daytoryo, Prime Minister. We should honor the leader, by giving the leader his own name. Still the main city should have a Japanese name, pending on land around. Octavian X Jul 29, 2004, 11:06 PM Emperor would be a far grander name! Some names come to mind: Emperor Jimmu, the mythical first emperor and founder of Japan; Emperor Meiji, who reunified under the Emperor and brought it into the industrial world; or Emperor Akihito, the current emperor. Donovan Zoi Jul 29, 2004, 11:22 PM "Octavian" has a nice ring to it... or Tokugawa. @Oct - just curious......has there ever been a Leader Name discussion where you didn't use that joke? BTW, I say we just stick with Tokugawa. The other options are too varied and probably won't garner enough support. Zarn Jul 29, 2004, 11:32 PM What about Bob? Bob's a great name. Perhaps Larry or Steve? Eric? How about Tokuzarna? It's Japanese.... kind of Seriously, I don't like Tokugawa. He is in civ too much already, as an opponent. Octavian X Jul 31, 2004, 12:56 AM @Oct - just curious......has there ever been a Leader Name discussion where you didn't use that joke? BTW, I say we just stick with Tokugawa. The other options are too varied and probably won't garner enough support. 'Tis tradition, DZ. I'm going to keep suggestion it until someone actually listens to me. :p MSTK Jul 31, 2004, 12:57 AM Maybe we can use Gandalf. __________________ Guess what? The above post is a complete joke! Donovan Zoi Jul 31, 2004, 01:26 AM 'Tis tradition, DZ. I'm going to keep suggestion it until someone actually listens to me. :p In that case............ :mischief: Hey, you know what? I proclaim that the Japanaticese adopt the leadername that will instill fear in all mere mortals that dare to speak it: Shogun Octavian!! There, I listened. Glad that's settled. |
