View Full Version : Term 1- Ministry of Culture

Welcome to our first Culture Ministry, with me, Curufinwë, once more as Minister of Culture, or whatever title they've given me. The first term will have a little to do, though not much, and I hope to get everything started up well. If you have anything you want to bring up relating to culture, anything at all, bring it up and I, or whoever else in this Ministry are here, will deal with it. I hope to work synergistically with the other departments, towards the promotion of our nation. Finally, I'm adamantly committed to the principle of democracy and ministerial responsibility, and should a poll say that the people no longer want me, I would resign. I'll finish up some more here in the morning.

Congrats Curufinwe! I wish you the best of luck of getting us culture without using fastfood chains or theme parks.

Interesting office. It's very cultural... I think.

To my deputy: In my absence (from the 2nd to the 7th) please ask the science advisor to get Ceremonial Burial or Masonry first, with the other second. (or as close to first as possible) on our research list, and then get them to go for Literature, or perhaps Mysticism. Please obey citizen polls at all times.

By the way, I know many of you will think this should have been posted in a PM, but personally I feel it best for the public to know exactly what I've done, in every case, and to hold me accountable for it. Good luck to my deputy.

Oh, by the way, who's the deputy.

If we take it the old way, we could have multiple deputy positions at the same time, meaning that it would be Chieftess.

But if we consider the the unexisting ruleset of our nation forbids it, then it would be me.

So, what's happening here?

Are there any specific wonders that are being aimed for?

Curufinwe
Jul 31, 2004, 07:53 PM
Fier- I've absolutely no idea, which is why I always refer to the deputy as that, not a specific person.

blackheart- That'll be decided by a citizen poll, which I'll be posting soon enough.

I remind the Minister that as Japan, and religious we begin with Ceremonial Burial.

Oh yes. Madame Speaker, I'd like to remind the member from Southern Alberta that his advice is always welcome. His input is always welcome. I'd like to thank him once more.

Madame Speaker! As well, I'd like to rise on a Point of Order. The member from Southern Alberta did not direct his comments through the chair, and has thus violated parliamentary rules.

(OOC: Again, parliamentary type talk. It's really more fun that it would seem. Now, who is the Speaker?)

Monsieur le Président de l'assemblée,
I'd like to propose the adoption of a blame motion against his honorable Curufinwë, Minister of Culture, for his uncanadian behaviour making cynic remarks against our beloved western fellows.

[/canadian parlementary attitude] By the way, Chieftess has confirmed that I am the deputy of culture, via a PM.

So, i've got to get culture.

Mister/Madame Speaker! I would like to remind the honourable Deputy Minister of Culture that he can not use the name of a fellow deputy (as in a representative) in this Chamber, taht being your sole right and privilege. As well, I congratulate him on his finding of culture.

Mr./Mme. Speaker, as well I would like to give the following instructions to the Deputy Minister. Would the Deputy Minister please, in my asbence, hold a poll regarding which wonder it is we would like to prioritize. IT would be preferable if this were in the multi-choice format, though of Course Mr./Mme. Speaker, that is not a neccessity.

OOC: I think, bar Moderator intervention, I shall continue to speak like this in this thread, simmply because it is amusing. and Fier, love the French. Whta a beautiful language.

My very honorable President,
As per his honorabe Minister's recommendation, I will take the liberty of creating a disussion thread and a poll addressing the issue of wonder building.

I would also recommand the foundation of a culture registry, listing all cultural buildings and wonders that we possess, their location and the year of their building.

Furthermore, I am glad to take care of his honorable Minister ministry while he cannot attend the House of Commons.

As the member for New South Wales I would like you to convey my deepest congratulations to the Minister for Culture and the Deupty Minister for Culture. Please also convey the best wishes of the people of my constituency.

Monsieur/Madame Speaker I would also like to ask that the Deputy Minister for Culture's blame motion be rescinded, and instead be replaced with a motion of censure. Perhaps the Deputy Minister would concur?

Mr. Speaker, I would like to propose, in stead of my honorable Minister and before this noble assembly, the archival in our Nationnal heritage protection program of this piece of artwork, creation of her honorable Vice President:
Chatting In The Moonlight (based on "Dancing in the moonlight")

We get it on most every night
When that old moon gets so big and bright
It's a supernatural delight
Everybody was chattin' in the moonlight

Everybody here is out of sight
They don't bark, and they don't bite
They keep things loose, they keep things light
Everybody was dancin' in the moonlight

chattin' in the moonlight
Everybody's feelin' warm and right
It's such a fine and natural sight
Everybody's chattin' in the moonlight

We like our fun and we never fight
You can't chat and stay uptight
It's a supernatural delight
Everybody was chattin' in the moonlight

Mr Speaker, my duties of Culture Deputy have required me to refer to the people about our nationnal standing toward Wonders.

For Archival purposes, the referendum is located here (http://forums.civfanatics.com/showthread.php?t=95931).

This referendum has been initiated to give his Honorable Minister sufficient information to better serve the Will of our people.

Hear yee, hear yee, ipso facto habeus corpus, ectera, ectera. I wish to bring up the matter of wonders and the techs that enable them.
Science has been pushing in the direction of possibly persuing the monarchy path, while culture has been urging the lit/republic path. i ask to continue this discussion in these hallowed halls.

Mr. Speaker,
As show by this progressing poll (http://forums.civfanatics.com/showthread.php?t=95931), our people, or at least 21 of them, want the Pyramids to be built, out of 35. That is sufficient information to say that the people might want us to actualy get the Pyramids. This means that we should think about getting Masonry.

The second comer in this poll is the Great Library, thus showing support for the Literature path.

The Hanging Gardens and the Oracle, representants of the Monarchy path, are being in the 3rd and 5th position as I speak.

Thus it is showed that the Literature path currently rally more support than the Monarchy one, and that Masonry should be resaerched as soon as possible.

The Honorable Science deputy would be welcomed to invite his Honorable Minister to these halls for further discussion of the mater.

I return from an odd game of men in pinstripes beating men in green with a ball and a stick, honorable Deputy of Culture.

I see this trend myself. Perhaps heading towards literature would not be a bad idea.
How about we poll the issue? a Joint Poll, would you say?

Mr. Speaker,
I'd like to remind his Honorable Deputy of Science that he is not allowed to talk directly, nor to name someone in these halls.

However, I will remind our noble assembly that the leading is not toward Literature itself right now, but more toward Masonry.

This being said, I will gladly join the hard work of my functionnaries to that of the Ministry of Science, for the Will of the People is paramount.

Honorable Culture Minister Curufinwe and Deputy Fier Canadien

I am about to lauch the Ringi Reform of Japanatica, and the first target is the city localization and development. As Culture Ministry, you are interested in building culture facilities such as temple, colosseum and cathedral, as well as other cultural wonders promoting happiness and cultural expansion.

Please investigate the City Proposal Thread and assess the printed map, marcation of future city borders, the tile production by shield, gold food and gold. Food is the most critical aspect for your Departments needs, and food in perspective, as you would need the city to expand to generate more culture.

So whenever a proposed city comes into the view on that thread, grade it from 0-5 based on how good the city location is. Also grade the city for its future cultural boundary and cultural expansion potential, as well as factoring in the cultural advantages for Science and Judiciary city improvements.
When complete, write 3-5 lines on the point selection, and submit it with the Domestic Affairs Ministry. If the City alternative is approved and selected for polling, you are free to, but not obliged, to write in the city proposal thread in order to influence the outcome. I have posted similar posts in the other Departments.

Since we can build cheap religous improvements, let's build more temples! Not only will they help to keep our citizens happy, it'll keep the people from founding a 2nd city on the hills and mountains.

Madame Speaker,

Salutations to you, and to all fellow deputies in the Chambre, and all members of the gallery. I have read over the various proposals slowly.

To the Minister for Science, I have this to say, Madame Speaker, I will not act contrary to the will of the people as expressed in a legitimate manner. I may personally favour the path to literature, but it is clear that the people desire a different path. As such, my Ministry and I will pursue that course, though we are free to advocate other positions.

Mme. Speaker, I wish to tell the Minister of Foreign Affairs that I will put into action his proposal in the morning, but, being newly returned from travelling, I'm too weary to put forth my best effort.

Mme. Speaker, I'd like to thank the Deputy Minister for Culture for his stewardship, and as well would like to tell him that he will take control again for 3 days, approximately, this Thursday, Friday and Saturday as the Minister for Culture has a wedding to attend. I apologize that I must be gone, and deeply thank the Deputy Minister.

To all deputies in this Chambre (Deputy being used in the sense of a representative, not a second, Chambre being my preferred spelling, whether right or wrong, and being an appropriate name for the place, though not the institution, of Parliament) I'd like to inform them of the rules in our Chambre. No member may address another by their name, that being the sole privilege of the Speaker, and then only in the instance where a member is to be removed from the Chambre. I implore all members as well to use the third person, this being standard in our Chambre.

[OOC: If you don't feel like it, then don't. I'll use this style for a time simply because I enjoy doing so. However, that gives me no right to force others to do the same. I'll attend to all business tomorrow.]

Dear Cultural Minister Curufinwë,

Our uneducated citizens do not seem enough aware of the great importance of science and - to a lesser extend, of course - culture. I feel it is our task to open the eyes of our citizens for the great benefits science - and to a lesser extend, culture - will bring to our nation.

Let's join forces to teach the citizens that our nation's first goal should be a speedy march to Literature. It has great scientific importance as it allows libraries which greatly increases our scientific capabilities - and to a lesser extend, culture capabilities - and alo has trade value.

Will you join me in the quest for this Science - and to a lesser extend, culture - project ?

Regards,
Rik Meleet
Minister of Science.

Mister/Madame Speaker, I remind my fellow deputies that ultimately the choice of which techs to research falls to the people and the people alone. I will, however, advocate the Literature path, and urge the department of Science to mirror my advocacy.

Mr./Mme. Speaker, I remind the member for the Emperors Throne Room [That'd be CG, for those whod ont' know] that unimpressed simply means that we're roughly equal, with perhaps a slight deviation. I will, however, be looking into this. I urge all deputies to look on the Histograph for a more precise interpretation.

Mr/Madame Speaker,
I will not argue the fact that Babylon is unimpressed toward our culture.

However, considering the earlyness of our situation, it is improbable that they have anything else than a Palace.

Now, considering that we have settled one turn later than them, this means that they have one more culture than us.

Mr./Mme. Speaker

I would like to remind the obvious to the Honorable Deputy of Trade, being that the Honorable Minister of culture and myslef have already cast our votes.

Meanwhile, I would suggest that the Culture Ministry takes action to facilitate the establishment of a role-playing game in our society. Such a thing should be helped because it will spread the culture of our nation.

Mr./Mme. Speaker,

Concerning the deputy for "several locations" I h ave this to say, Culture will not, so long as I am Minister, intervene in the qualities of city placement. We may as individuals, but as a Ministry it is not our concern. I am primarily interested in other things, namely culture and an aesthetic style of playing. I congratulate my fellow deputy, however, on his drive and work ethic.
