View Full Version : New Unit: Ottoman/Hungarian Knight 30/07/2004
BeBro Jul 30, 2004, 01:42 PM This is one of the units of Steph's endless request list ;)
It was labeled as Hungarian heavy cavalry in Jaseran Armor of Turkish origin, from the 16 century. So you can use it as either Hungarian or Ottoman, maybe even for other middle-eastern medieval Civs. :)

MarineCorps Jul 30, 2004, 02:14 PM Damn BeBro. This is great.
Steph Jul 30, 2004, 03:07 PM He's really great. It can be used as a late knight for Persia, Ottoman, and so also Hittites, Sumeria, Babylon.
Kinboat Jul 30, 2004, 03:10 PM Excellent :D
aaglo Jul 30, 2004, 03:15 PM It's nice, that the horse dodges for the attack B
Good job, Bro!
Straczynski Jul 30, 2004, 03:46 PM Nice unit! Will use him as a Cuirassier for the Ottomans. :)
Anyone knows what's the Turkish word for Knight, BTW? :D
Vuldacon Jul 30, 2004, 04:13 PM Great Work BeBro! Much needed... :thanx: BTW, well done .pcx files and correct Civ Specific colored areas.
Just as a suggestion, if sounds from an existing game unit are to be used for a new unit, the frames and speed could be matched in order to have the sounds play perfectly. The Civ III Knight Attack and Death have 15 frames each and use 83 speed for example. The Run is 10 frames and uses 66 speed, etc... Any new units that would use the existing Game unit sounds well could be created to match the frames and flc speed for Good end results. Easily checked in Flicster...No Criticism, just a suggestion concerning sound application for some of the new units. :)
W.i.n.t.e.r Jul 30, 2004, 05:05 PM Goodness gracious me- the Hungry nights are in town- hide the food, wine and the women... lol
mrtn Jul 30, 2004, 05:20 PM Oooh, didn't see this coming. :)
No idea Jul 30, 2004, 05:59 PM That units awsome! Thanks
Redking Jul 30, 2004, 06:33 PM Pretty good.

Xen Jul 30, 2004, 09:17 PM swesome- also note, it dosent look all that different from what a Byzantine (and a theoretical western Roman) heavy cavalryman might have developed into.
Kudos sir, i have to say i think this is your best unit to date
TopGun Jul 31, 2004, 12:02 AM Bebro...you "R" the Rittermeister!
Thx A Lot!
BeBro Jul 31, 2004, 01:34 AM Thx for the nice comments. :)
I haven't decided yet what's next, Steph's list has lots of units for different countries from several time periods. Maybe I make several of them and release them in batches of 3 - 5 :)
Vuldacon, yeah I agree with you about the sounds, but often I can't limit an attack or death anim to 15 frames, when I want to implement some unique ideas often some more frames are needed to make it look good. ;)
alireza1354 Jul 31, 2004, 07:26 AM Thank uuuuuu
Gogf Jul 31, 2004, 08:01 AM This is a great addition to the many knights already out. Keep up the good work BeBro!
Goldflash Jul 31, 2004, 09:34 AM Maybe you could to the South african Rooikat attack Helicopter? I really want that for GATTM 1.3....
Rob (R8XFT) Jul 31, 2004, 10:33 AM Thanks BeBro - it's really excellent!
IbnSina Jul 31, 2004, 01:50 PM I neeeeded this unit. In my mod I had been using a Russian knight to double as a Turkish one - now they can each have their own. Thanks!
W.i.n.t.e.r Jul 31, 2004, 04:21 PM There is a custom Russian Knight ?????????????????????????????????
Btw. I think we still lack a Polish Knight... after all Poland was a great power before the Holy Roman Empire made its way...
Supa Jul 31, 2004, 04:43 PM >> There is a custom Russian Knight ?????????????????????????????????
The Vityaz. A Steph's conversion.
W.i.n.t.e.r Jul 31, 2004, 04:46 PM Ah- ok- that's why it slipped my attention: I don't use any of those (too big and non-civ3 looking) cheers!
Aluminium Jul 31, 2004, 09:09 PM Great unit BeBro!
Wouldn't it better if you remove the last frame for a more flowing animation?
Ah- ok- that's why it slipped my attention: I don't use any of those (too big and non-civ3 looking) cheers!
No one? Especially the russian units are unique.
Nice unit! Will use him as a Cuirassier for the Ottomans. :)
Anyone knows what's the Turkish word for Knight, BTW? :D
The ottoman equivalent of the knight is the 'Sipahi' (or 'Spahi', there are different spellings). But it's already in the game since PTW. I have the Firaxis version renamed to 'Deli' (turk: madman, daredevil, daring person). This was a light cavalry, similar like hussars. The early version of the Deli was the 'Akıncı' (turk: raider, attacker, assaulter). But I think this was most mounted archers.
W.i.n.t.e.r Jul 31, 2004, 09:26 PM Nope, none- Much too large units, they absolutely dwarve civ3 ones! Don't get me wrong, they are nice and all, but I preferr to have the kind of custom units like the ones BeBro makes...

Maybe it is time for a knight pack II? :mischief:
Wouldn't it better if you remove the last frame for a more flowing animation?
You mean between Attack A and B? Well, I made both in a full loop, so people can use them as they wish (A>B, but also B>A). In game they play at higher speed, so one frame should not play a big role ;)
Cimbri Aug 01, 2004, 05:47 AM Maybe it is time for a knight pack II? :mischief:
Any hope of an “ancient knights” pack in the near future?
…Like, oh I don’t know, Germanic, Gothic, Celtic, Greek, Iberian, and Sarmatian cavalry?

BeBro Aug 01, 2004, 06:24 AM I thought of this too. But I have so much requests that really I can't say it now definately. OTOH those are really cool units. So it depends a bit how much free time I have. Next week I have to finish my stupid Latin course first  Then I have to write a paper for the uni, and I agreed to make stuff for Steph (units and more). But maybe I can make some requested units (I mean other than those for Steph) here and there (also helis/planes) :)
Cimbri Aug 01, 2004, 06:28 AM Cool. But thank you nevertheless, you’ve made some awesome units. :goodjob:
*crosses fingers*
QFred Aug 07, 2004, 04:07 PM You are a god of the units!!!! :worship: :worship:
You could have posted it like an Occidentalized Sipahi, if the Hungarian particle didn't be here...
tjedge1 Aug 08, 2004, 04:41 PM I love your knights BeBro!
Magma Aug 10, 2004, 06:25 AM Cool Unit, exelent work :)
You are the god of units :worship: :worship: :jesus: :worship: :worship:
cemo1956 Aug 11, 2004, 01:30 PM BeBro,

It really looked super.
Please hurry and make it.
Cemo
BeBro Aug 13, 2004, 12:25 PM I still plan to release another knight pack, incluing the Russian one. But it will take a while. ;)
spincrus Aug 18, 2004, 08:11 PM (sorry for the late reply and necroing this 2 week old post).
This unit is great; with the special curved Yatagan sword and all. It's very good in detail.
Frostyboy Jan 15, 2006, 06:29 AM Yea, it's kind of looking like the Siphai. Well armooured. A piece of Art :goodjob:
