Hello everyone!
This is an American Civil War cannon: 20-pounder (3.67 in) Parrot -field gun - with two crew members.
There are two different versions available:
- version, with one member behind, and one member in front of the cannon
Parrot.zip (http://www.civfanatics.net/uploads8/Parrot.zip)

- version, where both members are behind the cannon
ParrotAlt.zip (http://www.civfanatics.net/uploads8/ParrotAlt.zip)

You also need these: The sound-files, which are useful for both versions (unizip them to the appropriate folder - \Parrot or \ParrotAlt)
ParrotSounds.zip (http://www.civfanatics.net/uploads8/ParrotSounds.zip)

Attached is also sample of the pediapics of these units: Parrot on the left and ParrotAlt on the right. Samples of the animations are included in the next post.

Does someone have a list of cities for the Playmobil civ ;)?
Anyway, :goodjob:

Aaglo, don't you think the cannon would have a jolt backwards from the blast of the fire? It just looks weird just sitting there without moving while in attack. Just an idea. Good job anyway.

I'm not sure if you are looking the same animations as I am... these do have a bit of recoil in them (so they don't just 'sit there'). :)

I think they're great just as is! You're really spoiling us with these multiple versions (I'm also thinking one animation for one side and one for the other...)

Thanks Aaglo. I'll add it to our ACWC3C scenario. We've needed period artillery pieces.

Superb job.

Simply Gorgeous, Aaglo. This unit will replace my grand battery (firaxis) for the americans during military tradition in my epic game! Maybe I should just replace everyone's grand battery with this unit as it is way better than the firaxis unit. I dunno how you do it!

Very Good...Love the hand gestures and movements of the two guys, it adds a little more realism to the animation.

I just have a question:

would it be possible to replace the Firaxis cannon w/this unit in an epic game?

I've done this with city graphics and terrain but never tried w/units.

It 's a great unit. In the future it would be cool if the barrel explodes in the death anim.(pieces fly everywhere)

I think for a Civil War scenario, there should be a few of these at the outset, and this will be the only buildable cannon since the smooth-bore cannon is obsolete.

But there should be a number of smooth-bore cannon at the beginning. I think it'd be good if somebody made a munit of the vanilla Civ Cannon with the Rifleman for this purpose.

Dom, I'm making some more cannons from the ACW-era
- 3 inch ordnance rifle
- 6 pounder bronze smoothbore
and I'm going to try also
- 1.65 inch Hotchkiss mountain gun and
- gatling gun (btw, was that used in artillerish or infantryish manner? or - how should it be used in civ3?)

Dom Pedro II
Aug 04, 2004, 12:12 PM
The Gatling gun wasn't used at all actually... but there was something called a Coffe Mill gun that was indeed used, but it only had one barrel. It had a tendency to over-heat though.

I would suggest using the Gatling gun as either A) artillery or B) high-defense ground unit with a defensive bombardment.

At this time, they were still using these sorts of weapon as artillery eventhough this really wasn't their best use.

EDIT: Btw, thank you for the others! :D

I believe some of the first Gatling guns were invented during the American civil war, or shortly after it. Anyway these guns were used in a defensive manner similar to a modern machine gun.

Dom Pedro II

Panzer_Blitz, the patent for the Gatling gun was approved late in 1862, but the gun actually saw little or no combat in spite of the fact that Ben Butler personally bought a number of them for use at Petersburg. One of the reasons for this was Gatling's questionable loyalties as he also tried to sell this to the CSA as well.
