View Full Version : Big Problem With Conquests

I just went and bought Conquests from SuperTarget.

I came home and installed it and installation went off without a hitch.

No problem at all.

I placed an icon for the game on my desktop and went to play it, and it loads it up and then the screen goes black.

Then it goes back to my desktop without saying anything.

No popup, nothing.

WTF?

Try patching it to v1.22f. Patch is here. (http://www.firaxis.com/downloads/patch/Civ3Conquestsv122FULL.exe)

Failing that, make sure that you have the latest drivers for your video card. If it goes black then crashes, it suggests it might be a problem with either trying to play the intro (in which case find your C3C.ini file, open it and add the line playintro=0 to it), or else a problem with directx. What version of directx are you running?

I'm not sure if its called c3c.ini (I think t is), but it should be in the civ3\conquests\ folder - it might be called 'conquest.ini' come to think of it. :hmm:

Do you have the latest video card drivers?

It should be able to run it, but C3C installs directx 9.0b, which your video card may need updated drivers for. What sort of videocard are you running?

Right-click on your desktopl, and choose 'properties'
On the form that comes up, choose 'settings'.
There is a button in the bottom right corner labeled 'advanced'. Click it.
A new form will come up. Click on the tab that says 'display adapter'.
At the top, it should tell you the make and model of your graphics card.

Post back here what sort it is. :)

What is the serial number for your PC.

(to find that, look here (http://support.gateway.com/s/MISC/CustIDSerial/Gateway_Learningsu35.shtml))

Sorry - balancing this with work!

The serial number should be 10 digits.

If you go to this page (http://support.gateway.com/support/drivers/dlcenter.asp) and enter your serial number, it should give you a list of all updates for your PC. Look for video drivers for your given operating system, and install the latest ones.

I use a GeForce MX440 with no problems, so you should be able to get it working (hopefully)

Try this:

Click on you 'start' button, and choose 'run'.

In the box that comes up, type 'dxdiag' without the little ' things. Hit enter.
This will start the dxdiagnostics.

It will start a new program, which has information about your system. From teh 'system' tab of it, find out what your directx version is.

If you then click on the 'display' tab, you will see whether the various directx modes are enabled. You can also run tests to see if directdraw and direct3d cause any problems - its worth trying that.
