I'd like to be able at any point in the game to switch the CIV I'm controling. You know tired of getting wooped by the French (I know fat chance)well become the french and do the wooping. I know this would not be for the purist but I think it might be helpfull and fun.

Sorry if this was mentioned before but I could not find it.

ya, that could be an option, and if you are playing multiplayer, an AI should take over if you leave.

This is a bad idea. It would totally unbalance the game, since you could constantly swicth civs and practically control teh game. Or, you could remvoe all defenders from a city, switch back to your civ, and capture/raze the city's. Sorry, but this idea probably wouldn't work.
Smilies!   :D  :shakehead :gripe: :spear:

I think that it could be a nice feature to have. However discovery would be way too easy. I think the Use Last Map feature is good enough for the situations where you just wanna play the same place from a different location.

And maybe we could make sure that evevyone wins. Because wewe all special and some people find that civ is harded. and they just feel bad if they wose at it. And we need to siissy out for all the loser sap players.

Omega, so you are saying because you can you it to cheat in a game you are playing by yourself it's a bad idea? Years ago while learning to play chess, I'd often switch color to learn more about my own weaknesses. It made me a better player. I think the same could apply to CIV

I agree that this idea should not be put into the game, even as an option. If you want to play form a different angle, just use the Use Last MAp option.

@ Bob, were you playing against a computer?

Okay maybe but if you choose that option all point are taken form the end result.

Bad idea.

Question though.... how does switching from the losing team to the winning team make you a better player? I don't see it. Playing through your mistakes makes you a better player, not giving up.

Yes Sealman, switching from loosing to the winning position is not necessary going to help you become a better player, but that was only a humorous example. (sorry if I offended any French among us). But have you never wished you could step into the AI’s shoes and for countess reasons? I’d bet it would be a very simple addition to the code.

I played a game where you could switch who you were or just striaght out play the entire game which but that is to wierd-------Anyways NO for civ, it would show any minor AI problems that it has and it would drive the people righting the AI nuts.

It was used in scenario build in Civ 2, why not leave it there in Civ 4? That way if you really want you can use the option, but everyone would know that you've cheated.

How about a couple mutated forms:
1. Once your civ is wiped out, you have the option of taking over one of the remaining AI (unless there is only one left).
2. Have a respawn option where you get to start over as a new civ within the existing game (like the current respawn AI option only applies to the non-AI player)

:crazyeye:

Add it to the game as it was in Civ2, as a cheat option. So then you could use it, but never as a legal maneuver.

not a good idea.
it would result in a never-ending story

How about if they put it in but you are only allowed to take over a civ which has a lower score than your current one. For those who like a challenge.

My Thoughts:
1) You should be able to respawn if the AI does.
2) The switching sides thing should either be a cheat menu, like Civ 2, or a special Sandbox mode.
3) When you conquer parts of a civ, you can make the cities less unhappy(i.e., they think they are independent) as part of a puppet government. You would then control that civ at the same time until they had a revolution(always Despotism, Monarchy,or Fascism). They could even conquer new cities or do your dirty work for you.
