Those who have submitted ideas show a dedication to the game, likely putting in more hours than they should, and demonstate objective, analytical thinking skills. These contributors whose ideas are used (or who have contributed, in case none of mine are used) should be selected for beta testing. :D

Betatesting a ways off? I have been betatesting CIV IV for weeks now. Almost every night when I turn off the light and climb into bed. :mischief:

Seriously, they will probably get their testers the same why the usually do. I don't know how it is but it probably works well, I am sure some of the conquest betatesters can enlighten people to the process - provided it is not covered in any non disclosure agreements.

one thing to remeber, the people who put in lots of work have probably already formed ideas of what they like and don't like in civ. they would be highly biased

that bieng said i highly support this idea :goodjob: (if only because, i am probably one of the people classified as putting a lot of work into it :p )

Of course we all want to ... but one thing I hope they do:

Get people who are into a "neighbouring" genre to betatest.

e.g.: age of empires fans?
e.g.: sim city fans?

(These are kind of like cousins of Civ.)

Soren has made it clear that he wants to grow the audience, maybe even target someone different from the Civ 3 audience. (He's also said he wants it to be Turn Based, so don't worry.) Those types of fans would be the most likely to enjoy the game, next to people who enjoyed the other Civs of course.

Heh, well, testing by CivFanatics and testing by non-fanatcs are not mutually exclusive.

I play SimCity, Age of EmpiresII, Age of Mythology, SMAC, War/StarCraft, Railroad Tycoon, ect, as well as Civ3, and can see how certian aspects of each correspond with each other. I do enjoy all of them but Civ3 and SMAC the most.

i play the sims, AoE2, moon tycoon, C3C, several small online games. i'm preety sure it would be impossible for me to install another gqame on my computer. i tried to run disk defragmenter once. it requires like 5% free memory space. i couldn'rt run it

i'm guessing most of CFC is fairly diversified when it comes to gaming

Yeah, it's unfair, I'm getting an iBook, and I will have to get Civ 3 for mac and then it will only be vanilla, I know I can play as PTW with the GOTM installers though...

But it is unfair.

No it's not.

You can just as easily get a PC and play it that way. :p ;)

It's interesting how the nearest neighbours really ARE RTS's (starcraft, age of empires, age of mythology) and Sim Games (Tycoon series, Sim series).

You're not gonna see Civ make an appeal to Quake fans (although I am, indeed, a Quake fan). They'd just be foolish to appeal to this kind of sensibility.
