View Full Version : Numerous Unique Units
Dauntless Aug 05, 2004, 11:45 AM I'd like to see each Civ have more than one unique unit. Maybe English could have Red Coats, Man O War, Longbowmen, Harrier, and some other stuff, lol. Americans could av Navy Seals, F15, erm... (help me out, i know not of yankee military :p) Romans maybe, Legions, Javalineers, Slingers. Greeks could have an enhanced Trireme, Phalanx, Hoplite, e.t.c. Russian's, maybe, enhanced Nuclear Weapons, T-34(WW2), T90(Modern(ish))
Any more ideas? :D
SwitchbladeNGC Aug 05, 2004, 11:53 AM I like the idea of multiple unique units. For Americans probably the F-22 instead of the F-15, also the Apache, "Doughboys", and Abrams. How about the Hind for the Russians.
mitsho Aug 05, 2004, 11:58 AM no, we already have enough units, and more uu will come with more civs.
More UU means also that less to no civs will play with the normal units... And this is certainly not what we want, is it?

Colonel Aug 05, 2004, 12:50 PM i like lots of UU but i would say one or two for each civ each era, this would need some work for civs that dont have long history like the US and you might. This would prevent mass UUs everywhere and would still allow use of regular units
KabeDerlin Aug 05, 2004, 02:32 PM The thing about UUs is that they are Unique. Like most of the time no two unique units are alike. By creating more you throw in that you have unique units that are the exact same. For instance if the Roman Legionary and the Persian Immortal were the exact same unit with the exact same stats, then neither would be very unique, would they?
I think one unique unit per civ is enough.
Loppan Torkel Aug 05, 2004, 06:27 PM I think one is enough too. Though I'd like to see more deadends like the one with ironclads and knights and maybe some cultural uniques like for example: only european civs can research crusades and get an improved knight - a Templar!!! :)

I would have to disagree with you on the deadends part. I don't build those units (or very few of them) because I want to keep my army as modern as possible.
CivCube Aug 05, 2004, 06:35 PM Unique units are often useful for more than one age. Letting each civ have more than one would be overkill. Save this idea for a mod.
ManOfMiracles Aug 05, 2004, 08:25 PM I'm a bit torn on this. It is a real annoyance when I'm unable to build my UU because I don't have access to the required resource(s). Having another UU which requires no special resources would even things out a bit.
Colonel Aug 05, 2004, 09:11 PM if not two per age per civ at least one, they wouldnt over lap too much and even if two UU were the same i wouldnt mind two civs haveing one also to point out the two over laping civs might not be in the same game and even if they were in the same game and dead enemies right next to each other its a fat chance they both would have four different UU all over laping in Stats
Dauntless Aug 14, 2004, 09:07 AM The main reason i thought of numerous unique units is that i feel that the developers were biased by making the american F-15 a unique unit that can't be made obsolete. What I was mainly thinking was the same as Crusaders suggestion of each civ having unique units in different ages, so that each civ has a fair chance. Regarding civ's like America that dont have a long history, maybe America could either have Native American units, since that seems to be how the developers made them, or have European-like units, since thats where most Americans come from, and took most tech and research from
luceafarul Aug 14, 2004, 09:23 AM The idea with multiple UU's is good, but a problem would be the real ancient civilizations. It is a piece of cake to find another one for America, Germany, France, Russia etc., but what about say Sumer? You could of course give them two ancient UU's but it seems to me to make the game unbalanced.
Dreadnought Aug 14, 2004, 09:30 AM I don't want more unique units. Like it was said before, the units will overlap a.k.a have the same stats making them not very unique
Harald Aug 14, 2004, 10:18 AM I think one is enough. If there would be more UU's then max 2 per civ and then they should be like one groundunit and the other one should be a ship or an airplane. Althoug this vill make it difficult to choose units for ancient civ's since the don't have airplanes and they might not have had any unique ships.
And they should be evenly distributed over time.
dylanhatesyou Aug 14, 2004, 11:44 AM Who cares if the unit stats are the same? I like the unit's flavor more, really. The different name and the different appearance. Not everyone is smart enough to do modding.
