View Full Version : Unit Preview: Mega Ork
The Great Apple Aug 05, 2004, 04:06 PM An ork in mega-armour. This stuff is heavy, and I mean HEAVY armour. It's power assisted, and HEAVY. Did you hear that? HEAVY!
At the moment I'm looking for comments on the model, are the proportions right, are there any bits which look odd (I haven't textured yet, so the colours are rather plain, but are going to be the general colour), and is there anything I should add, like more knobbly bits (which I may add anyway)
This is a bit more bioligal than the kans I did, but not very, I'm slowly progressing towards no clanky bits... slowly - this one took ages to model, and will probably take a while to animate. Thats why I want model feedback before I go too far...
EDIT: Arms tucked in a bit, and a few bits added
EDIT 2: Textured, weapons a bit larger, a few more bits added/changed
EDIT 3: Rebuilt cranium - it didn't look orky enough
Mr. Do Aug 05, 2004, 04:13 PM I take it we're all meant to not mention the lego look to it ;)
Loogs good though. Good and... heavy.
Hikaro Takayama Aug 05, 2004, 04:24 PM Looks good. With a few minor changes, it would look just like the Terran SCV's from Starcraft (hmmm..... now THAT's an indea, a Starcraaft mod.....). I don't really see any problems with it.
@Mr. Do: What are you talkin' about? Legos are the best thing since sliced bread (I still have the 4 lego-person story Japanese style lego castle I built about 4 years ago sitting in a storage container in my room back home).
Drift Aug 05, 2004, 04:36 PM Looks good. I really like your units, should've posted more in your threads. :) If I try to find something to criticize, the distance of the arms from the torso is IMO a bit too long. I believe orks' proportions are exaggerated, but this much?

Look closer. ;) Blizzard does't allow mods based on their games and they will take action against anyone attempting to do it. If they didn't there would already be mods of Diablo, Warcraft and Starcraft - the idea of making a mod out of one of them has been raised almost dozen times during my stay at CFC.
Too bad, but luckily there are universes like Warhammer that aren't so overly protective.
Edit: I just realised "I don't really see any problems with it" refers to the unit in question, not mod about Starcraft.

I'm not cussing lego, it's just some of these 40K style units have been jokingly described as looking like lego, and I think the unit makers are starting to get a bit tired of that particular criticism ;)

Really? Well, in that case, Blizzard has just lost a (formerly) loyal customer. First they make Starcraft Ghost for console only (which at the time they announced it really tourqued me off), but now they just had to be pricks about someone doing a not-for-profit game mod based on their game. I ain't giving any more of my money to the greedy bastards, and I'm going to tell them just that.
Anyways, I like that Ork unit. With some modification, it could be used as a futureistic worker unit that bears some semblance to a game whose name I'm not allowed to mention.
Mr.Do: I know, I was just teasing you. :p
aaglo Aug 06, 2004, 12:20 AM That looks a bit heavy. But in this case, it's only good thing :D
About lego's & sliced bread:
I think that lego's are older invention than selling bread in slices. Or are you talking about the bread your momma sliced for you? :p
About the Blizzard-games mods:
I'm not so sure about that Blizzard-thingy at all anymore. I've also heard, that it was just some april's fools bad joke, but I'm not so sure. If somebody wants, he/she could confirm this from the powers in charge of these decisions :) (personally, I don't really care)

Reading this from the Playmobil man... :mischief:
aaglo Aug 06, 2004, 06:07 AM Your envy is so transparent :D
And so is mine (towards the lego-orks) :p
D.Shaffer Aug 06, 2004, 08:45 AM I think the weapons need to be exagerated a bit more. It's hard to make out what's on the model and ork weapons should stand out as they're supposed to look rediculously huge. I want to see a big old powerclaw and kustom shooter :D
Oi! Eat lead ya soft beakies!
Communisto Aug 06, 2004, 11:39 AM looks great, but maybe he should be a wee bit shorter?
Goldflash Aug 06, 2004, 01:29 PM You know, Aalgo, you could make units for us, too. The Ork Artillery peices come into mind....
Mr. Do Aug 06, 2004, 01:35 PM How generous of you ;)
The Great Apple Aug 06, 2004, 03:30 PM Thanks for the feedback everyone - he looks alot better now. I've textured, and I think I'm pretty much ready to add a skeleton and start animating.
looks great, but maybe he should be a wee bit shorter?
I think he's ok. Just a tad shorter than my killer kan, which is about right - all the other orks have got to be shorter in comparison, and they have to be visable. Orks are large guys after all (especially the large ones).
Oh, and aaglo - it'd be great if you could help with some of our artillery, we need to get some ol... *cough* more experienced unit creaters into the mix - just make sure they are red and black :D
EDIT: I've just decided to make a king unit similar to this with a big banner, bigger teef, and more cunnin' wargear.

You Read my mind! I was going to ask for something like that to be Warboss Urmbuk for the Goffs! Thanks!

Your doing a bit of mind reading yourself... I'd just finished the model when you posted this - here he is (if you think he's too similar I can do a few more changes, I'm feeling quite lazy tonight)
Goldflash Aug 10, 2004, 05:50 PM Naw, thats fine. An Idea I've been toying with is give the King Units different stats to make Regicide games more interresting. For example Urmburk would have a higher attack. Nob Zagvrum of the Evil Sunz, whose name litterally means 'Fast Bike' Would be on a bike and have two movement points isntead of one. But this is still up in the air.
MSTK Aug 10, 2004, 08:11 PM (hmmm..... now THAT's an indea, a Starcraaft mod.....).
Blizzard won't allow it. They wouldn't even allow Warcraft Modmakers to make a Starcraft mod for Warcraft.
Wyrmshadow Aug 10, 2004, 08:45 PM I have a lightwave model of what I think is an Imperial robot. It looks like an Imperial Marine but it has a double barrel bolter, a giant claw and a nasty face. Anyone able to use lightwave models?
Samuel Mumm Aug 12, 2004, 03:33 PM I have a lightwave model of what I think is an Imperial robot.
No robot. :D "Just" a Space Marine in terminator armor. But that make no really different because a Space Marine in tis armor is armored like a cybot. :D

I've got that model too! :)
It came in about 50-billion parts that I had to convert to 3DS, resize, re-build and export to MFX before I could even use it.
... I then decided that i didn't like the model afterall

TGA, did you complete this Goff UU for the orks in heavy gear? I think it looks just wonderful - because it's like in-between your ork machines and ... um... my orks_without_machines :) - and that UU really does look good
drzoidberg Jun 10, 2005, 05:47 AM The powerarmour ork looks good. But where is the funnel for all the smoke? just kidding.
The Great Apple Jun 10, 2005, 07:45 AM No I never did. I might get back to it. I'm trying to learn max at the moment (though I can only do that at school, and I have A-Levels on).
Goldflash Jun 10, 2005, 10:58 AM Yeah, I really love the Mega Armored Ork you did, TGA, so thats why I left it out of the "Aaglo, please re-do 'em" list which I have yet to make. I'm still waiting for Umbruk but take your time.
But whats up with the second User ID?
The Great Apple Jun 10, 2005, 11:50 AM To be honest I have absolutely no idea about that second ID... I think I may have had troubles when I had to reactivate it, so made another... or something. Probably on my other PC. I'll check it out...
