View Full Version : Forts and Fortification ideas

This has been somewhat talked about before,

Anyways, I want a Type of Fortification that would be like a wall and built by a worker, this wall would give X percent up in defense. One unit would create a zone of control over one square in either direction of the wall.

The Unit garrisoning a portion of the wall would distribute its strength on three square the one it was occupying and the one on either side of it,

Also when a worker builds a portion of the wall they would build it over three sqaures at once and it would be destroyed the same, so if a unit pilliged one square it would destory that section of wall

how is this any different than a fort?

edit: besides being able to be pillaged that is.

it would be built in section groups of three so instead of just one fort it would be like three in a line but to counter that it would have less defensive bonus and and one unit could create a zone of control over those three squares unlike a fort

Also i think forts in Civ3 can be pilliged

Walls allow for units within movement range who haven't moved to reinforce the line. If you had roads along the wall,a nd the enmy tried to cross at one section, a horseman six squares away could come fight the battle, impi as you would prefer. You would get a pop-up asking you whether to reinforce or not. Railroads would make these super-useful, although once it is penerated the enemy can just move around(Maginot Line). Also, they should be built one at a time. Very useful for controlling passes and such, walled corridor.

this if used right would, Give a use to paratroopers finally (Make them stronger too) and also you could have an empire without random useless cities everywhere

I am actually fond of the idea but I think it needs tweaking.

i dont mind changes to the idea but one thing that cannot be change is the part about the zone of control over the wall i dont want it to need every piece occupyed by troops everywhere

This is requirements---- Need Engneering to build---

Ancient Era- it should look like the great wall (this would also effectivley get rid of that wonder)
Middle Era- No idea as of yet (any thought on this one)
Industria Eral- Maginot Line is what it should look like
Modern Era- No idea as of yet (same any thoughts)

As for resourse requirements i dont think they should be needed but i leave this up to the rest of you
