View Full Version : New Units: three riflemen 08/08/2004
BeBro Aug 08, 2004, 05:26 AM These are (from the left in the attached pic) a Greek, an Ottoman, and a Mexican Rifleman. If you want more info, ask Steph :p ;)
DL all three http://www.civfanatics.net/uploads8/Riflemen.zip
I attached an in-game shot because I think the gif previews in the next post turned out a bit too dark, so in the game they look like here on this pic.
BeBro Aug 08, 2004, 05:27 AM Theoir anims are mainly the same, with some differences indeath and fidget anims. Here are two examples, the Ottoman attack anim, and the Mexican Fidget anim
NateDawgNY Aug 08, 2004, 05:41 AM Nice job on these BeBro. :goodjob:
Steph Aug 08, 2004, 06:07 AM Only 42 units remaining in the requests list
BeBro Aug 08, 2004, 06:13 AM :D  ;)
TopGun Aug 08, 2004, 08:43 AM Bebro, these riflemen sure are nice and were sorely needed!
By any chance, could you modify the Ottoman rifleman to make him look like the Greek Guards? They would be a nice Industrial Era FU (or even UU) for Greece, since they stem from the war for Independence in the early 1800s...
W.i.n.t.e.r Aug 08, 2004, 10:23 AM Bernd, you have outdone yourself again !!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Thank you for these cool new riflemen :D they look far better than the original Firaxians...
@Top Gun: Wasn't that Uniform introduced until after the conflict by King Otto?? - besides: the summer uniform is much more fun to look at ;)

Senturion Aug 08, 2004, 10:24 AM Those look great. I can't wait to try them in the game. You're sure churning out a lot of units lately. Thanks.
W.i.n.t.e.r Aug 08, 2004, 10:25 AM ps. the greek one looks almost austrian...are more like these planned??
BeBro Aug 08, 2004, 10:40 AM I have some more like these in mind as a second batch, also requested by Steph.
TopGun, I could throw this Greek guy in then, if you don't mind that their basic anims (run, default, attack) will be quite similar....this would save a lot of time, since I can apply anims from the existing riflemen on new models. Still I would make some variations here and there.
Just a question the big black thing on your first pic (as well as on winter's first), what is it? It seems to be on his hat? I just ask to get the model right. And another thing I wonder about is if I should use rather normal looking shoes - those black things look cool, but on civ size they could look funny....mhm, I better post a preview then. But I'll finish the knights first ;)
Dom Pedro II Aug 08, 2004, 11:01 AM These look great! Thanks, BeBro.
Black_mage_boy Aug 08, 2004, 11:13 AM I wish i could create units but I have not enough skillfullness to do so
Steph Aug 08, 2004, 11:17 AM Would it be possible to have a melee attack with the baionet and a range attack with the rifle?
It can be useful even in civIII if you use it as attackA (Range), attackB (melee) and attackC(Range).
BeBro Aug 08, 2004, 11:35 AM Does anim C really play in Civ? Never tested it, because I thought it does not work anyway. But then I saw kinboat including three anims for example with his Archilles IIRC. How's the correct order then A - B - C ... B - C (looping B - C until the end)?
Steph Aug 08, 2004, 11:55 AM Normally, it's supposed to be:
A once, then looping B if only A and B are present
A, B, C, A, B, C, A, B, C if the three are present
W.i.n.t.e.r Aug 08, 2004, 02:27 PM I have some more like these in mind as a second batch, also requested by Steph.

It is some fabric (no idea what really) and suposedly resembles hair ... Greek thing, will have to ask someone- is there a Hellenic in the house ?!
Aluminium Aug 08, 2004, 06:47 PM ps. the greek one looks almost austrian...are more like these planned??
No, it's danish, because a Dane was king of the Greeks.
Great units, BeBro!
PS: The name of the guard rifleman is 'evzone'.
W.i.n.t.e.r Aug 08, 2004, 07:34 PM The Uniforms of the Austro-Hungarian infantry of that time are still quite similar. As to the other one, the time the Evzones uniform was created was before King Georg I., during the "Bavarian reign"- no idea why he like pompons though...
TopGun Aug 08, 2004, 09:16 PM They're pompoms... LOL
Mobilize Aug 09, 2004, 02:50 AM More more rifleman/infantry units please. I'm going to record these down in the gunpowder line unit chart of mine. These are great!
Perhaps these two could be made? Just scroll down this website until you reach to paintings of soldiers. http://www.cascoscoleccion.com/espana/es21sa.htm
The first one is from 1846, and the second one 1914.
Rhye Aug 09, 2004, 04:43 AM Please, the attack anim of the helicopter next one!
BeBro Aug 09, 2004, 04:53 AM Guys, please understand that is is impossible to make all requests, there are simply too many. I'll release a lot of units during the next days/weeks, but these are mainly those I already agreed to make, or I wanted to make myself. For the moment I can't accept any more requests. I may come back later to the helis, but it will not be that soon. Hope you understand it ;)
Rob (R8XFT) Aug 09, 2004, 05:15 AM A wonderful addition to the unit library :goodjob: !
I especially like the Turkish one :) . I'll be using it for Morocco as well.

Make it lighter blue and you can use it as Bosnian Infantry too...
The Black Glove Aug 13, 2004, 01:43 PM What Can I say. They're Great! :goodjob:
ShiroKobbure Aug 14, 2004, 09:40 PM whats the total list of units you will make?
TopGun Aug 18, 2004, 05:51 PM Bebro, I know I know.. I am becoming notorious here...
But, could you change the color of the uniform of your Ottoman Rifleman to white (but keep the Fez red! - no Civ color) so that you get the Egyptian Rifleman?
See below for a scene from the battle at Tel-el-Kebir in 1882... yeah, teh Egyptians seem to get pummeled by the British, but they'd still make a nice unit in civ - and maybe take revenge on the British!
TopGun Aug 18, 2004, 05:52 PM Egyptian Rifleman 1882
spincrus Aug 18, 2004, 08:09 PM Perfect Ottoman rifleman unit. It really is just like what Ottoman riflemen looked like in the 19th century, until very early 20th century; W.i.n.t.e.r's doing the WWI era Ottoman infantry anyway, which is also perfect.
Glad to see this unit. I requested this a very, VERY long time ago but am too lazy to fish out the request thread in the CnC forum.
