Does anyone have a copy of the help files for creating custom factions and for editing the rules txt That used to reside on SMAC Custom factions website.(which seems to have gone down) If you do have a copy of these files could you please e-mail/icq them to me or reply with a link to the files. It would be great appreated.

Has two programs for custom faction in their downloads section. One a template for faction making and the other a utility for editing .text files, which I believe is the one from the dead site you spoke of.. They seem to be the currently premier site for custom factions, and have a library of some sixty of them.

SMAC is better than CIV3.

At least in some features.
In Diplomacy (which Civ3 was supposed to excel at) -- In SMAC you can plead other Civ's to halt aggresasion, and gain esteem as a peace-maker.

Civ3 is more of a resource-hog, supposedly for enhanced AI & graphics, but what happened to the essential concept of peace-making?
If Germany attacks me, I can get France and Russia to support me in the war against Germany. Later, Germany is getting whoopped, and begs for peace, giving me money & techs in the bargain. Good deal, but then France doesn't like me anymore because I'm not supporting them anymore. Better if I can ask Germany to make peace with France & Co., then make my bargain, and become everyone's pal.


Graphics -- SMAC has 3-D terrain, Civ3 has flattened pix from 3D sources. And you can't rotate your view in Civ3, or re-center the mini-map.

I'd like to make alternate terrains and units for SMAC, and maybe widen its fan-base.

Has there ever been a SMAC-Editor? Are there more terrain-skins available beside the 'color-blind' version?

Smac-x comes with a simple faction characteristics editor, but your have to do your graphics separately. There are two tools at the networknode site linked above.

ACEdit 2.0 does NOT work with SMACX, i works with SMAC only.
Never seen somewhere a later version working with SMACX, too.
