My vote goes towards Black_Hole, while not the best candidate on the list (or the most likable). I think he'll do a good job.

mhcarver was a fresh face, so I gave him my support.

Plus he has MH on his name, which is enough for me to support him.

I voted for Black_Hole, as I'd like to have the Science Minister living in Zojoji.

i voted for mhcarver simply because out of the 2 that really wanted to win, he was furthest behind, i couldnt find another way to distinguish between the 2 (reading the debates thread may have been a good start but......) :D

I have had bad luck with the last few departments I've run, but that wasn't my fault.

Not that it matters to me much, I'm actually surprised I've gotten this many votes, for not really "running." I wonder what I can do if I actually show an interest in winning.

I agree. If you swore to not drive a car during your whole term or do any of the things that made you get in such a wreck I would without question support you :)

Man, it's a tighter race for Deputy, than it is for Minister.

Is there a possibility of 2 deputy positions? Let's say one for trading tech and the other for resources/lux?

Strider
Aug 28, 2004, 08:35 PM
:hmm: I'm only one vote behind to tie it.

science doesnt have power over resources/lux, they do have it over tech esipnage and space ships
mayb whoever comes in second can be my spaceship deputy ;)

Actually, no you don't have any power over tech espionage and spaceship construction. The only thing you can do is poll what technology(s) we research next.

Actually what I meant about resource tech was maybe a position created to appraise which tech that leads to resources we should get first, or something like that. The other maybe just a general purpose deputy.

BTW, all espionage (I think) falls in the FA office, and actual spaceship building is either Domestic or governors.

u were right about spaceships, but not about tech espionage:
5. The Minister of Science shall be responsible for all tech
acquisition, as prescribed by law.
tech espionage can aquire techs, thus its under the science minister's juristiction

Nope, we don't have anyone who is able to control espionage and spaceship construction:

The Minister of Domestic Affairs shall be responsible for all domestic initiatives, worker allocation, as well as the distribution of funds, as prescribed by law.

The Minister of Foreign Affairs shall be responsible for matters involving treaties with foreign nations, as prescribed by law.

According to our current system, domestic does not even have control over Wonder construction, and all Foreign Affairs can do is make treaties.

Huh. I guess the FA office can do every other spy action except steal tech.

as tradition fa has juristiciont over espionage, but thats not in the constitution as strider pointed out
edit: spaceships could be considered small wonders, thus under culutre's juristicion

Also, Black_Hole under than reasoning you could say that Science can acquire techs VIA trade, which is infact the Department of Trade's job and would be a huge jurisdiction issue.

These are the duties assigned to the Minister of Foreign Affairs :

Organize decisions on declarations of war.
Organize decisions on peace treaties.
Organize decisions on construction of embassies.
Organize decisions on rights of passage.
Organize decisions on trade embargoes.
Organize decisions on mutual protection pacts.
Organize decisions on placement of spies.
Organize decisions on intelligence gathering, spying and sabotage.

Why is it listed in the job description then?

In pass DG's the FA was incharge of all of that, and I guess CT just copied and pasted the old text into the descriptiton.

There is no question about it, tech espionage has impact on foreign relations, and is the clear mandate of the FA. Embassies conduct espionage, and embassies is a FA institutiton, as much as SA works through libraries and universities.

2. The Minister of Foreign Affairs shall be responsible
for matters involving treaties with foreign nations,
as prescribed by law.

4. The Minister of Trade shall be responsible for all
trade, domestic and foreign, and the use of resources,
Strider that isnt true, as you see trade is responsible for all trades, thus nullifying the science minister's duties(by tradition), but nothing says the fa is in charge of espionage, and science has a clause about all tech aquisition.
also provo embassies arent in there

This is probably another reason we need to change the executive branch desciptions

So basically it's not an expressed power, more of a traditional power?

which? its a traditional power of the fa, since its not in the constitution,
but the science minister has a clause stating "all tech aquisition" which I believe includes tech espionage, since noone else has power on espionage

Or.... we could present the question to the Judicial Branch and let them make the ruling... that would probably put the issue to rest. Although it may not be taken into consideration until the new Term starts.
