 !!! December 7th, 2001--NEW VERSION 1.3 AVAILABLE !!!
New version includes Standard Sized map !!!

Hello Everyone,

Here is my custom map of Earth to replace the map that came with the game. It is a 180 x 180 map. You will find that Europe is more formed as well as Asia and the Pacific. I've put resources in their proper positions as well as rivers and terrain types. And, I paid attention to the look and play of the map. Now, if only there were a way to set specific starting loctions for Civs.

Please do not steal my work. If you modify the map for redistribution, please acknowledge me as the original creator.

Enjoy!

Great Map! I enjoyed it very much. Would you think of a 100*100 version?

Thanks for the praise! What do you think about the resource allocation? I'm currently working on version 1.2 where I am adding more of certain resources, like wine in South Africa and Australia, and reducing others like coal.

Yes, I have already started a 100 x 100 version. This 180 x 180 one is fun, but it takes several days to just complete a single game. So I want to make a map that plays faster games as well.

The holidays are slowing me down ... but I should be done with it quite soon. Here is a link to view some of the screen shots:

looking great again :) save us from this silly firaxis map in which britain is way down south... and I really miss those grids open for both land and sea units for a realistic game very much. you should also consider attaching denmark to sweden.

the question is..

should england and france, denmark and sweden, greece and turkey be connected or should not. if sweden and denmark is not connected, why is turkey and greece connected? these three distances above are all "swimmable". No need for a vehicle. But those grids should also let sea units to transpass

anyway.. I believe resource destribution will be easier on a smaller map.

I've reworked the resources on the map. In a chat session with Soren of Fireaxis ... he stated that strategic resources are at least one per civ and luxury are less.

This rework should make the game more interesting.

Below are the counts:

HORSES 16
IRON 22
SALTPETER 18
COAL 26
OIL 17
RUBBER 16
BAUXITE 16
URANIUM 16
WINE 10
FURS 12
DIES 10
INCENSE 10
SPICES 10
IVORY 10
SILKS 10
GEMS 12

The standard map is coming along. It seems easier to make a smaller map than a huge one, but I haven't been able to spend much time on it yet.

Here's screenshots to see progress so far ... I have one shot of the full map.

Believe me, I want to have it too ... the huge ones just take too much time to play one game.

I know ... I know...

The 100 x 100 is coming along ... slowly. I think I'll have it done by this weekend. In a certain way, the smaller ones are harder than huge ones... They really show when you have things misaligned..

Thanks for all the great feedback!

I'm nearly done with the standard sized map ...

All that I have to do is paint in the terrains and resources. That's about 4 hours of work...

The standard map is complete!!

I'll have it posted very soon ...

I'll update this thread with the new file. The file will include

-Huge map
-Standard map
-Civ3Mod file that
- adds governments
- adds corruption fighting to police stations
- makes some small changes (e.g. Barracks require warrior code)

Ok ... I've posted the standard sized Earth map!!

This is the first version of it, so let me know what changes need to be made. I've only played one game on it.

I'll do the mod with the next version ... I want to see how the changes with the patch are like.

Basically the mod I made uses the following goverments:

Anarchy
Tribe
Despotism
Oligarchy
Monarchy
Republic
Theocracy
Democracy
Confederacy
Parliamentary
Communism
Facism

I'm thinking of adding some resources as well, though this will take more time to play around with.

quick comment: Australia is too green, it should be more desert, L.A. greater metro area has more people than the whole country of Australia.

could you please list how many of each resource you used on the standard map? thanks :)

I'll list the resources as soon as I can. Most likely be on Monday...

I've been working on some changes already... added a river to Sweden and Norway ... changing some of the grassland to plains in Australia ... let me know if you see any others.

Can you make the Huge map bigger than 180x180?

Civilizator
Dec 10, 2001, 07:47 AM
Your maps are excellent. About the 100x100 I think you
should put at least one resource in every little island. There
is one for example in Hawaii but none in New Zealand. Due to corruption it wouldn´t make any sense to found a city there but if there is a resource the situation changes.

Let me know what you think.

Zeb_Fisher
Dec 10, 2001, 09:09 AM
Thanks!

Putting a resource on every island I think is a pretty good idea... I almost do this on my huge map ... Indonesia becomes quite important for those rubber resources in late game...I've found ...

Let me do my resource count and then I'll see what to move to New Zealand on the standard map. My huge map has coal in NZ...

So far I'm really liking this 100x100 map ... I've nearly completed a full game in 6 hours... that's compared to numerous days with the huge one. There are lots of wars going on as well... for no reason the Zulus came all the way from Asia to attack me in Europe. I sent over a small group of knights to pillage their countryside so that I could start building up a military... After cutting off their iron supply and luxuries, I bought enough time to sack a couple of their cities. Great stuff!!

About making a larger 256x256 map... I can do that, but not right now... This week is finals week at school and I've a major project due on Thursday that is draining my time...

Also ... I was considering making a map of Mars as it would be if it had water next. I am thinking it should be even smaller than a 100 x 100 map, maybe even tiny size ... not sure yet.

Hey sweet map i really like it but there is just one problem I can't get the Civs to start in the starting locations. Has this problem happened before?

JimmyBo
Nov 29, 2002, 11:08 AM
Is there something i have to do on the Civ3Editor to get the civs to start where i want them?

Zeb_Fisher
Dec 21, 2003, 12:25 AM
These maps were made before the patches updated the editor... You can use the editor after applying the latest patch to set the starting locations for each civ...

Haven't played this game in a long time, but if I start again, I'll update the maps here.

Enjoy!

Could you update this so that the civs have their real world starting locations?
