View Full Version : Map of France + surrounding areas.
LouLong Nov 19, 2001, 10:32 PM Hi,
planned to be used as a base for French medieval scenarii, this map is playable as is now. So I give it to the ones who like to play on France.
Requires early trading (some roads built) and might be difficult for some starting points.
Should become a four-map/ modpack set of France at different times of history with special ressources / wonders / tribes.
Main problems :
- a small contraction line in the middle
- not a FLAT world (let me know if you can create such maps).
Critics and comments appreciated.
Hope you enjoy !

Admiral Lilwall Nov 24, 2001, 02:31 AM By 'flat', you mean Civ 1 style maps, right? If so, I' be in for that :D
LouLong Nov 24, 2001, 12:25 PM No, I did not mention flat maps but flat world.
Means you cannot cross over the hedges. Basically a necessity for any localized map / scenario (everything really but world maps).

Headmaster Jan 11, 2002, 07:48 PM I just downloaded the Civ3CopyTool from the Utility Forum. It has an option called 'Round World' and one 'Polar Ice'. Haven't tried it yet, but I think that's what you're looking for :)
ShihSan13 Jan 12, 2002, 02:25 AM doing the mountain, coast, mountain trick...
like make a moat on the the "cross over" line of the map"
x-mountain
o-coast
---xox---
that will prevent any "round" world traveling. this way, you cant build cities there, thus cant get a transport there, thooo... one problem would be...
helicopters/paratroopers
but i guess you will have to resist the temptation yourself hehe
i doubt the computer will try to take much advantage of it as its not that smart i think.
Malta Jan 29, 2002, 12:50 AM First a complaint: The txt-file shouldnīt just be called readme.txt. Try naming it after your map so itīs easier to find it in the directory for the player.
The map was interesting, although France looks a bit streched. Well, I had the same problem with my "Malta" map, so I know it can be pretty difficult to make it look the way it should. The roads already in place were a bit strange. Particularly because my units would only "update" between rounds, so sometimes I could move along a road I couldnīt see. It was a bit frustrating not being able to build mass transit, and my inability to fight pollution was what made me give up before I had won the map. I hadnīt allowed any victory conditions besides space race win anyway, which might have been a mistake for this map.
I started off in the centre of France, playing as the French, and with Paris in the correct position. Quite suitable and fortunate I guess. :-)
The other civs naturally closed me in at a particular stage, but thanks to culture, I was able to expand anyway. It took a while before my civilization was attacked, and when the Indians decided to do so, I allied with several other civilizations, and the Indians were quickly crushed. Later, I went to war with the Iroquis, and the French were by far the superior civilization when I quit. Not that the other civilizations were very friendly towards us because of that at all. They were all annoyed or furious at the end, even in spite of my donating many of the conquered cities to other civilizations...
That was about it, I think. Good luck with the modpacks or whatever you decide to use this map for.
LouLong Apr 15, 2002, 09:50 PM I am sorry I did not make this map evolve but I waited for some of the right tools to arrive. Since some of the unofficial game editors start to be powerful, I am willing to retouch my map and create a complete ModPack for the 100 years' war.
Most of the theory is in place (I am an historian) and I will do the map once more. But I am not an artist and I would be really glad if someone were willing to work on the Modpack with me for ressources, leader faces, special wonders, buidings and maybe units.
We would work as a team and share the credit of course.
Thanks to let me know if anyone is interested:

No problem, even if I wanted to create such a scenario myself. But I am afraid it is not a very good map.
