Just wanted see if anyone out there was as into German/Euro/Designer boardgames as myself. Stumbled across Boardgamegeek about 2 years ago. Looked at their top 50 list and was stunned that I didn't recognize a single title. Did a little research -- and, since then, it's basically turned into a mini-obsession.

My favorites to date: El Grande, Princes of the Renaissance, Bang!, Union Pacific, etc.

To answer your question- yes. I had played a few such games at origins or other places, but it's not until recently that I've been exposed to many of the titles. To thank for this is the local gaming group (http://www.buckeyeboardgamers.org/index.html), so you should see if there's a similar one where you live. If not, I can at least direct you to BrettSpielWelt (http://www.brettspielwelt.de/gate/jsp/base/index.jsp?nation=en) , which is a site where you can play many popular boardgames online. Of course, you have to learn the interface and most of the players are in europe, so there's a language and timezone difference to deal with.

I love boardgames, I've been getting the urge to play go, I haven't played that game in forever!

Thanks for the offer, but I've got 6 or 7 buddies that are usually up for a game.

But... in the off chance that anybody else reads this, I would recommend taking a look at Boardgame Geek (http://www.boardgamegeek.com).

I'm not talking about Sorry, Life, Monopoly, Chess, Checkers, Scattergories.... they're highly strategic/tactical games that are predominantly designed in Europe (though there's plenty of great North American titles). The beauty of these designs: clean/simple rules, playtimes that are between 1 and 3 hours, no elimination (well.. that's not always the case, of course).

I just assumed that there'd be some boardgamers on a site such as this.
