View Full Version : The Iroquois Situation
blackheart Aug 30, 2004, 07:52 PM What should we do about the Iroquois, if we do anything at all? Please choose the option(s) you want.
The Iroquois currently have one conscript warrior fortified next to Immo. Immo has a spearmen and can easily defeat the warrior. It would take at least 10 turns for them to send reinforcements, unless the warrior is a scout for a larger force. Our militaries are equal and our relations are polite.
Black_Hole Aug 30, 2004, 07:59 PM i have a question:
if we ask them to remove their troops and they dont/declare war, do they get a rep hit?
Cyc Aug 30, 2004, 08:21 PM We already asked them to remove their unit and "or declare war" was the only option. I actually like RM's suggestion of selling them 1gpt for like 16 gold (or whatever it was). We don't have to spend a lot.
KCCrusader Aug 30, 2004, 08:57 PM i voted for war, but then i realized this was an immediate action poll not an eventual action poll :D
Civman2004 Aug 30, 2004, 09:01 PM I have to concur with RM's idea also. 1 gpt for 18 gold is pretty cheap. By doing this and moving some defensive units into the southeastern region we should be fine, and if we're not we're able to deal with it.
How would we start a war between them and someone else without also joining in?
TimBentley Aug 30, 2004, 09:21 PM I think we should not act immediately, but if the certainty of the Iroquois attack appears certain, we should sign a ROP or make the gpt deal (I prefer this because we would get our money back if the Iroquois break the deal). We should probably build a few more military units.
Chieftess Aug 30, 2004, 09:32 PM Sit back and "wait". That is, build up some archers!!!
An ROP is bad. That means they'll go for our weakest city. We don't have the infrastructure (or workers!!!) yet).
Sir Donald III Aug 30, 2004, 09:49 PM Given that this was a Multi-Option Poll, I voted for 2 options:
Short Term: Sit and Wait. If the Iriquois want to fight, let them come to us and say so.
If we go to war, though, we will be facing a UU that will be quick in getting here. Putting Rome and Babylon on our side will give us a buffer zone.
Though we would need to sign ROP with one of these, otherwise we would miss out on the spoils, likely. (By "one of these" I mean Rome or Babs. NOT Iriquois. The only thing we'd get out of it... is that the entire world would think the Iriquois are scum... :hmm:
superpelon Aug 30, 2004, 10:17 PM we should send them an ultimatum. get out. nuff said.
Rik Meleet Aug 31, 2004, 03:58 AM Do the banking thing; get 18 Iro Gold for 1 gpt, or 35 Iro gold for 2 gpt.
Chieftess Aug 31, 2004, 04:16 AM Like Rik said, we can take this opportunity to turn it into a major rep hit for them. Granted, they might not take the 1gpt... (sometimes they don't when they're about to attack)
Gregski Aug 31, 2004, 05:10 AM I think Rik's idea is excellent. The 35 gold for 2 GPT costs us a mere 5 Gold overall and provides assurances that the Iroquis will be most reluctant to attack. Our main priority is the Romans methinks.
Sir Donald III Aug 31, 2004, 09:43 AM Are you sure it's them that will receive the hit if they declare war? I mean we're the ones paying out the GPT under that deal.
Cyc Aug 31, 2004, 10:24 AM Heheheheh. Point well taken...
Rik Meleet Aug 31, 2004, 10:41 AM SD3: Excellent point.
I know the game is unfair in distributing rep-hits and the human player gets an unreasonable amount of reputation-hits in his face. But paying a civ which breaks the treaty itself by declaring war on you and then you get a rep-hit ?? I absolutely cannot believe that. But I am not sure anymore.
CT: You've worked on PTW and C3C; do you know ?
