"sacrificing the leaders to the Gods"

Does this mean the base rules have been altered to be like they are in the Meso-America Conquest scenario or is this just for flavor?

In that scenario, you can sacrifice workers for 40 culture in a city. Fun, but not a good idea for COTM, as it would make 20K cultural victories severely unbalanced.

The Mayans are my favourite.
This is also my first GOTM.
I'll give the open class game a try.

Actually, I'm pretty sure its only 20 culture until you have a Sacrificial Altar in the city, then it becomes 40. Or maybe it's 40 and then becomes 80... Help, I'm only 16 and already losing my memory!

Doesn't really matter whether it's 20/40, but I've never actually played the scenario, only the Warhammer mod which also has it, so you're probably correct.

Sounds like you're having fun Paradigne. Are you keeping notes as you go along? They come in handy when it's time to do a writeup in the Spoiler threads. ainwood normally creates the 1st spoiler thread around the 5th.

I could've started last night... but I'm having a real fun (as in... bloodthirsty :ar15: and I'm winning :band: ) game as the Arabs so will wait 'til that's finished.

Nice, my first game in GOTM. Play most often on Warlord/Regent, but I guess I'll take on the Open-class Game.

I had been leaning towards a Cultural victory this game, as Diplo is my cop out victory condition, and Spaceship just takes too long. Anyway, I checked the Victory Status Screen to see how I was doing in culture, and discovered that the culture needed for a win was 100k, the default for a standard map, not a large map. Was that intentional?

:hmm: Doesn't look very good!

I made darned-sure that the map parameters had been set for the large world size in terms of the corruption and tech rate, but assumed that if those were correct, then everything else would fall into place! I didn't think to check the culture limit, although it looks like it has to be entered manually into the scenario design...

We can either fudge the jasons (probably fairest) or patch saves for anyone getting close to 100k (and fix the starting saves obviously). Will think about this and make a decision (input is welcome).

I was contemplating a 100/130 k for a change (though I lose patience probably and end up with domination ;) ).
I think modification of Jason best date is the way to go. The difference between 100k and 130k is anyways not big in a well played 100k game.
Trying to call back the saves 3 days after release would probably end up in a big mess.

Well, we'd only need to worry about calling back saves from those that get near 100k, but I consulted the Oracle / technical consultant, bribed him with some orange soda and he recommended modding the Jason parameters, so we'll go with that. :)

I'll try this COTM. The mayans are an amazing civ...

I have some doubts: What is a Spoiler? all victories are enabled?

Dianthus

A Spoiler is anything that can spoil the game for you, I.e. information about the game that you shouldn't know in advance.

Each month around 3 Spoiler threads (threads with the word Spoiler in the title) are opened to allow participants to dicuss the games. The first post contains criteria that you have to meet before you can read the thread to avoid spoiling the game for you.

For now, anything Ainwood hasn't told us is a spoiler. Things like who the other civs are (though that's easy to find out as soon as you start playing), where they're located, where resources can be found, etc.

Ainwood typically posts three spoiler threads. The first is typically posted around the 5th. You can read it and post in it once you've entered the Middle Ages (sometimes there are other requirements, such as a requirement that you have met all the other civs, or all the other civs on your starting continent). This thread will remind you not to reveal any information about Middle Ages or later resources, and may have other limits (such as not to reveal any information about landmasses other than the home continent).

There's typically a second thread around 5 days later that is for people who have entered the Industrial Age. Again, there will be limits on what can be revealed (I think the only limit is usually that you can't reveal Industrial or Modern resources, but there could be others).

A week or so later, there's usually a final spoiler thread for people who have finished their game.

In terms of victory conditions, Victory Points are not enabled, but all the usual Epic Game victory conditions (100k, 20k, Diplo, Spaceship, Conquest, and Domination) are. Also, Scientific Leaders are disabled.

I tried to send in my game and I'm not sure it got there. I got some messed up page that the list could not be found (or something like that) so I looked at the list for sent games and COTM04 was not there?

Did I goof this up and should I try again?

You can't submit through the usual form just yet, Randy. The sheer size of the saves is causing problems for the script. We hope to solve it soon. If you don't want to wait, you can email the save to gotm@civfanatics.net.

One thing I noticed yesterday - ALL of my cities, not just the ones by fresh water, are producing 3 food in the city square. Is this supposed to be? Or is my understanding of the Agricultural trait not what I thought it was?

Welcome to the wonderful world of the Agri civs, eldar! :) I noticed the same thing in my HoF attempt, so it's not something Ainwood did to the game this time... :mischief:.

Have you changed government? That happens once you change out of Despotism. That's standard behaviour, introduced in one of the patches.

Thanks, I'll wait. I'm on vacation and the moden speed is like 21 or so.

Does the cal. work so we can check the score?

I had domination win in 1380ad with a score of 5946.

Yes, but it's a large world and I do a lot better in Play the World. I've only done 6 or so C3C game vs. 100+ PtW. I'm 10 times better in PtW.

My game crashes when I discover the Vikings, which is a real drag because i have a pretty decent game going. Anyone out there having the same problem. It crashes when I end my turn and when I try to make contact.
