View Full Version : Got any ideas for my SimCity 2000 building?

I am using SCURK to draw a BIG skyscraper, (for SimCity 2000) but it looks rather dull, so I was wondering if anyone had any better ideas for what it should look like.

EDIT: And the color is unrealistically blue.

A point at the top??
A big banner on the building that says your name??

Those sound good?

Are you going for the glassy modern look?

Are you going for the glassy modern look?

Absolutely, but I'm also going for a blue look, but not too blue that it looks unrealistic. It would be something that's both modern and futuristic. Modern architecture, but it would be built out of yet to be discovered metals that have a blueish color.

I'm actually hoping to have something like this in real life in the future, but much bigger. We take 4 existing skyscrapers, in Minneapolis for example, bulldoze the roads between them, merge the towers, and add to it (we make it go taller). And it would be ENTIRELY residential, therefore making it almost a real life arcology.

And that is why I'm looking for the SC2000 version of Minneapolis.

Sort of like a silvery blue like Osmium (http://www.webelements.com/webelements/elements/text/Os/key.html)?

Unrealistically blue.
Sort of like a silvery blue like Osmium (http://www.webelements.com/webelements/elements/text/Os/key.html)?
I can see it now...

"Take a tour of the Minnesota State Osmium Tower! It could be your new home!"

"Average price: $260,000 for a 2-floor residence."

And deface a Phillip Johnson? No way!
What's a "Phillip Johnson?"

I made some changes to the tower. What do you think? I lightened up the blue (I was unable to find a silvery blue color in scurk color box), and added a beacon, which may be hard to see because of the historic office building behind it. Got any ideas?

"Take a tour of the Minnesota State Osmium Tower! It could be your new home!"

"Average price: $260,000 for a 2-floor residence."Well, Osmium might not be the best idea, considering it's toxicity.

What's a "Phillip Johnson?" :confused:Phillip Johnson is a damn good architect, he designed the IDS center.

Hmm...

Maybe I'll absorb the IDS Center into the MN State Tower for sadistic pleasure.

Osmium is toxic? AAAAAAAAARRRRRRRRRRRRGGGGGGGGGGHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!! [pissed]

Add stuff like vents and stuff to the roof, that'll make it more realistic.

I'll upload the .mif file so people can submit me their ideas.

Kind of a dumb question but isn't there a newer version like SimCity 2004 or something? I though SimCity 2000 was older.

Yes, but some like SC2000 like some perfer Civ2. :)

but Civ2 and Civ3 are different in ways not like an expansion, while SimCity upgrades higher than 2000 will definitely be better, not really opinionated. It's like an upgrade, and upgrades you pay for aren't ever worse. If they are, it's not an upgrade, but an expansion.

Oh Sim City 2000 subsequent and sim cities are much more like Civ 2 vs. Civ 3

Sim City is Civ 1
Sim City 2000 is Civ 2
Sim City 3000 is Call to Power
Sim City 4 is Civ 3

Sim City started it all
Sim City 2000 revolutionized it
Sim City 3000 wasn't all that good
Sim City 4 is very complex and has substantially different gameplay

Yeah 3000 wasnt very good, and 4 was too complicated and a bit hard.

Yeah, its also a BIG resource hog (on my computer anyway).

Okay I know why 3000 wasn't that great(To me it's simply X-Com TFTD, while 2000 was X-Com UFO Defense) but I still don't know what's so special about 4. Everyone says complicated, but 2000 was also complicated, you never had to worry about the underground before, you could individually tax certain areas of service in your city, and I doubt they put the stupid llama crap into 4. So what's so complicated about?

I made a tower based on yours. It's 3x3 commercial.

Here's a new tower (based on the old designs). It's a 4x4 arcology. (I don't know if this helps but under the file menu in scurk there is a button called "Export to BMP").

Excellent, now if I could try getting the tile set also from here (my computer thinks that files downloaded from the simcity forum are "corrupted" )...

EDIT: I just checked it out on SC2k. It looks good! Still need the tileset, though.

tile set? Do you mean CH's minneapolis buildings?

PlutonianEmpire
Sep 26, 2004, 04:44 PM
Ohh yeah!. Looks VERY GOOD!!! How do you rename non-gov't buildings, such as renameing "Office Tower" to "Piper-Jaffery tower?"

Thanks! :thanx:

And how do you force airport runways into your desired position?

EDIT: The reason ShadowDude posted the minneapolis stuff was because I had requested it at SimCity Fora.

To tell the truth, I don't know. Chukchi_Husky found them somewhere and then transfered them into a readable format (My computer couldn't open the proper file extension) You could try PMing him, I don't use SCURK often.

I had that problem. I changed my browser to Firefox and then the downloads worked.

Use the Rename tool in scurk.

It works. Thanks. And the forcing of airport runways into certain positions, how do I do that?

Chukchi Husky
Sep 26, 2004, 05:21 PM
It can't be done in scurk. Build an airport in SimCity 2000 and when a runway appears in the position you want it in, save it and then reload it into scurk to make changes.
