View Full Version : 9/9/04 - Four Ork Footers
The Great Apple Sep 09, 2004, 11:30 AM Four more green things for the 40K mod!
They are, in order of appearance, with descriptions from the 40k units thread:
1) Ork slugga boy
"One of two basic ork Infantry units. This one will have a higher attack than the shoota but no defensive bombard. They are meant to work together and cost the same."
2) Ork shoota boy
"One of two basic Ork infantry units. Has a lower attack than the Slugga but has denfensive bombard. They are meant to work together and cost the same."
3) Ork freeboota
"An Ork with a headband and two Sluggas. He would have hidden nation and be avaliable on a special tech of the same name." The headband ain't quite a headband, but it'll do. Basically these guys are pirate/mercenary orks.
4) Ork burna boy
"A pyromanical Ork with a burna. He'd come with Military Data and would be able to clear jungles and forests... and IG troops."
EDIT: Errr... descriptions done by Goldflash ;)
Each unit has sounds linked from the default sounds, and the burna has some from the PTW American Flamethrower. I've also done a few sounds myself...
And the previews:

Hikaro Takayama Sep 09, 2004, 12:35 PM Excellent work, as alwyas, TGA.
It looks as though the Orks will be the first complete civ for WH40K. Not sure what else these guys could be used for, though (except maybe a Rifts mod...) I love the animations and the descriptions, though.
Drift Sep 09, 2004, 01:49 PM Lookin' good, but mechanical units have suited your style and current skills better. Models could use a few extra details and animation is a little rigid at times. However, they are without a question, high quality units and I like them a lot.
Also, I'm no expert, but they rank very high among the humanoid units created with OpenFX. Good job! :)
Goldflash Sep 09, 2004, 02:43 PM Exellundo! Funeriffico! I'm gunna toss them in the mod in a bit...
The discriptions were all done by me, by the way....
Communisto Sep 09, 2004, 02:44 PM it's just soo.... beautiful.... soo very beautiful

Good feedback, I'll work on it. Thanks :)
Goldflash Sep 09, 2004, 02:50 PM Oh yeah

Goldflash Sep 09, 2004, 07:59 PM The Shoota doesn't seem to have a fidget flic, yet the ino calls for one.
unscratchedfoot Sep 09, 2004, 08:14 PM I put that fellow in the vietnam mod as an advanced armored NVA infantry.
Goldflash Sep 09, 2004, 08:39 PM Infact.. all the .INIs are screwed up. Gimme a minute to post more betterer ones.
Looks like the Freeboota is missing his Run.flc as well
citizen001 Sep 09, 2004, 11:34 PM  no offensive, nice character, looks rather comical though  i think it's the colours that make it look a bit too cartoonish. might want to change it to darker more menacing colours.

Oh poo. I can't sort it out now, or I'll miss the bus. I'll do it in about 5-6 hours. I forgot to put the flics in the zip...
Hunter Noventa Sep 10, 2004, 08:11 AM These look great, but IMHO the shootas are WAYYYYYY too small. Orks like BIG GUNZ! Those things look like peashooters.
I'd like to suggest the next Ork unit though, the grenade throwing Stikk bommas!

Vuldacon Sep 10, 2004, 08:24 AM Looks pretty Good The Great Apple...the intense, solid, contrasting colors could be more subdued with a greater range of each shade for a more "realistic look". The so called "cartoon" look happens more from a lack of Shade Range than color but intense, contrasting colors also intensify this affect. All things considered, they Look Good and I like 'em :) ...they would be even better with some shade range adjustments and minor animation tweaks.
The Great Apple Sep 10, 2004, 08:39 AM Eh? Now you have me confused... I'm not even sure how to start going about changing the shade range. I could probably tone down the contrast - I'll have a few experiments. I'm updating the files at the moment BTW, but they could be updated in the near future if I can figure this all out - or maybe in the far future...
I'd also like to point out that the minatures themselves look slightly cartoony ;)
EDIT: Maybe the guns are a bit small. I wouldn't say it's too major.
Goldflash Sep 10, 2004, 09:55 AM The shootas are fine. I've been saying that the Sluggas are to osmall. .but.. aww crap I'l be late for class.
The Great Apple Sep 10, 2004, 10:19 AM I can make the shoota larger, though it'd be quite a bit of work to make all the sluggas larger. Here's a darker preview (at least it's meant to be darker) - does it look less cartoony, or shall I fiddle with the contrast a bit?
Goldflash Sep 10, 2004, 11:05 AM Whatever man. Just fix the missing flics. and just so Ya know.. you put the slashes in the sounds backwards.
The Great Apple Sep 10, 2004, 11:13 AM Whatever man. Just fix the missing flics. and just so Ya know.. you put the slashes in the sounds backwards. I have fixed the missing ones (check post 2). Thanks for the sound tip. I'll remember for next time...
If ya could update the request thread twould be good...
Goldflash Sep 10, 2004, 11:18 AM Oh yeah. That thing. Sure. I have a few units to add to that, as well.
Spelling Police Sep 26, 2004, 08:04 PM ...Why is everyone here familiar with Warhammer and 40K?... I didn't know there were that many other people who played everyone's favorite obscure tabletop game... :wow:
Could these be modified to make some Warhammer fantasy orcs (as opposed to the 40K orks)?
and of couse
WAAAAAAAAAAGH!!! [dance] :hammer:  :band:
Goldflash Sep 26, 2004, 09:42 PM There already are Fantasy orks.... And 40K is not Obscure. Not Hardly.
Hikaro Takayama Sep 29, 2004, 05:29 AM TGA, once again I'd like to thank you for theese units. I've actually managed to find a use for them outside of WH40K: I'm using your Ork Shoota as the Goblin Alchemist (top of the goblin line) in my FF mod. The other goblin units I'm using are Embryodead's that he made for the WH fantasy mod, ironically enough.
...Why is everyone here familiar with Warhammer and 40K?... I didn't know there were that many other people who played everyone's favorite obscure tabletop game...
I'd hardly call it obscure. Every single RPG shop I've ever been to around the world sells figures for WH fantasy and WH40K. I'm not lying about this, since I've been to gaming shops in Japan, Australlia, Singapore, and Bahrain, not to mention about 10 or so states in the US. One of my friends tried to convince me to start a WH40K collection, but my two biggest issues are (1) how much those dang figurines cost, and (2) living on a ship I have less than 2 cubic meters of storage space, most of which is taken up by uniforms, leaving no room for the hundreds of WH40K figures I'd need to play (not to mention that hardly anyone on my current ship plays).
tjedge1 Nov 12, 2004, 09:22 AM Although they don't quite fit in Mystara, I plan to use 1 of these for my mod. They might not be such a bad fit, and certainly better than what I had. ;)
EDIT: oops, got so excited finding these I forgot they were on page 3. Sorry for the unneeded bump.

Here in Blighty, Warhammer 40k is THE tabletop game. There's a Games Workshop store in every town and terms like 'mech' and 'gundam' are almost unknown.
