I've always thought that the Germans needed their own "Jeep" unit, especially since they had a formidable design of their own, back in WWII.
The first, SdKfZ 82 "Kübelwagen" is the regular, land-only, unit. It was used as a liaison, but also, equipped with a MG 42, as a light, unarmored, assault vehicle.
The other, SdKfZ 166 "Schwimmwagen" had all the same characteristics but adds excellent amphibious capabilities. In fact, it had a propeller screw and could be used like a boat.
