View Full Version : Negative Food on Tiles with Certain Resources
Pounder Sep 12, 2004, 01:25 PM Does anybody modify their games to give a negative number for food when certain resources are present. Resources that would be bad for the immediate environment, like: uranium, aluminum, oil, coal.
I know that technically they should not have any impact unitl they are mined, but the game only gives bonuses (+ or -) to shields for mines and ignores food bonuses (+ or -).
Example: A hill usually provides 1 food. Give coal a -1 value in the editor for food. If coal where on the hill then there would be no food for the tile.

I have two such examples of this... The Hima and the Nature Preserve which I use as effective "inviolate zones" where human beings cannot exploit the land. Not only do they give negative food, but they give negative production as well... but they do give a commercial boost since they can be nice tourist areas.
kulade Sep 12, 2004, 04:00 PM I made a village resource in my mod, it adds 1 shield and 2 commerce and takes 1 food away.
W.i.n.t.e.r Sep 12, 2004, 04:07 PM Dolphins: Plus in Commerce (tourism) but a Minus in food (destroy fishing nets)
Wolfs, Sharks, etc...
WildWeazel Sep 12, 2004, 04:09 PM When I saw the title I thought you meant making the final food production an negative number :crazyeye:
I tried doing that once with coastal rocks, gave 1 shield but took away 1 commerce.

I think that's another really good one... I hadn't thought about that.
mrtn Sep 12, 2004, 06:41 PM There's a wolf resource in WH2 that eats one food. Works like a charm. :)
WildWeazel Sep 12, 2004, 08:34 PM Just found out the hard way: be cautious when giving stuff negative integers. Sometimes the game can't handle it.
It sometimes works, like for defense on terrain, but it can cause trouble.
So, if your game freezes, these are the ones that could be causing it.
Apparently it can mess things up, probably if it makes the total negative.
Dom Pedro II Sep 12, 2004, 11:12 PM That's not good... I've been giving Unique Citizens negative intergers..... I hope it doesn't cause things to crash.
The Last Conformist Sep 13, 2004, 08:40 AM It should be fairly easy to make sure it never adds up to less than zero for any legal resource-terrain combo.
