BGS Kug-Bau Queen of Sumer 2016-10-05

Barbarian Graphics Shop Kug-Bau, Nin of Kalam (Queen of Sumer)
Lived: 25th century BCE
Background: "The woman tavern-keeper who made firm the foundations of Kish."
The only known woman on the Kings List; said to have gained independence from En-anna-tum I of Lagash and En-shag-kush-ana of Uruk; contemporary with Puzur-Nirah of Akshak, according to the later Chronicle of the É-sagila.
"The House of Kug-Bau" is mentioned in "the reign of Puzur-Nirah, king of Akshak", a propagandistic letter attempting to predate the shrine of Marduk to an earlier period: "Kug-Bau gave bread to the fisherman and gave water, she made him offer the fish to Esagila". Her reign was one of peace and prosperity.
