I could take a look at one of your units and see what I can do. Presently I am working on some culture group units and I'm still struggling with a procedural method to make skins that match units of CivIV. It still seems as though its a case by case effort to tweak the tones and shading of the skins/gloss maps along with the use of the corresponding CivIV shader.
