Starting a thread for people to post how they are getting achievements, what achievements they have etc. This is not meant to be a guide to achievements, I'm sure someone else will start a thread for that, although that thread may end up pulling some info from this one.

I'm hoping that this is a continually active thread where all can post their achievement stories, successes, failures and whatever, instead of having different threads for each person.

I played the tutorial. Frustrating because you were on rails, but there were a few movies that you probably only see playing it. Got:

If You Build It, They Will Come
A Revolution Without Dancing
Escort Service
Investment Banking

I did not get the normal wins for the civ or map. Guess the tutorial isn't a normal game.

Going to try Cleo at low skill level, Duel Map, Pangea. If I don't have the floodplains to build the Pyramid and Sphinx in my capital, I'll reroll until I do. Need to play at lower skill level to make sure I get the Pyramids built. Going to use the game mainly to learn more, and read the Civilopaedia.

Edit: I was having trouble getting flood plains near my capital. I went into advanced setup and set the climate to arid and that worked.

Well, playing a regular game opened up the floodgates:

"Game, Settler, Match"
"Irish Heartbeat"
"Warlording Over Others"
"Veni, Vidi, Vici"
"Daughter of Isis"
"Walk Like an Egyptian"
"Here's Looking at You Kid"
"Alfred Wegener's Legacy" - had to look him up, he proposed Continental Drift way back in 1912
"Everything is Awesome!!!"
"Naming Rights"
"New Orleans Style Spanish Rice" - no idea why this is named as it is.. ideas?
"The Test of Time"

Next game, going to try Gilgamesh, with another Gilgamesh, and get a Cultural Victory on Prince Difficulty, Tiny Shuffle map, Classical Start. See if I can get Selfie and the first great work of writing.

I started as Barbarossa, during the game I tried looking up what achievements I could go for. Turns out that the third crusade is an achievement and Jerusalem was actually on the same continent as me. Deus Vult!

Lucky. Looking over the achievements, some of them you just have to be ready for if the opportunity presents itself. Never know at the start if you will fulfill the conditions.

Got my first culture win and a bunch of achievements:

"Machiavelli's Great Work"
"Buying Your Blue Jeans and Listening to Your Pop Music"
"First to Civilize"
"Epic of Gilgamesh" - just had to pick the Writer points Policy as soon as it was available
"Four Corners Offense"
"Riffle and Bridge"
"Voyage of the Mayflower"
"A Case for War"
"Selfie"
"After Antiquity"

Have to think a bit on my next game. Maybe religion win with Spain.

Already at 38 out of 100. Keep forgetting that I want to do the district 12 one until I already construct the coliseum. First game I didn't leave a spot for an aqueduct - second game I forgot about the harbor. Oh Well.

Every civ has an extra achievement associated with it, aside from the "win the game one" - so at the very least I look up what that is and see if I can get it done. Just tried a Sumeria War Chariot rush (crazy good) for an early domination win. Delayed it a little bit when I was at the last city so I could get a great writer to Receive "Epic of Gilgamesh"

By far my favorite one getting so far was Secret Service - as I did it without realizing it was an achievement. I was just in full on espionage mode that game.

Oh and I had remembered Flight Slingulator in one game but I missed the part where it needed to be lvl 3. I totally had a slinger around to airlift though. So that was bummer.

Thanks for letting me know that it had to be level three, I've read the description to that several times and that condition didn't sink in.

I've decided to play as Japan, King Level, Fractal Small Map, Egypt as one AI, Renaissance Era start, space victory. Trying to get the achievements for map type and size, difficulty, victory type, era start, and the Japan special victory (I'll have to plan my city layout better than I have been). Hoping for Darwin, Galapagos Island one, and Man on the Moon. I'll keep District 12 in mind.

I'm at 52/100 so far.

Just like in CiV, you can go 'One More Turn...' after you win and still unlock achievements.

Having said that, I just tried 'Seven Wonders of the Post-Apocalyptic World' after I'd already won a culture victory, and it didn't unlock. The seven wonders were definitely jacked up after the city got thermo-nuked:

This was a city I gifted to the AI, but still, I figured it would work.

This is the only one that hasn't worked for me so far.

Hmm, could be our first busted achievement. If anyone else succeeds or fails at 'Seven Wonders of the Post-Apocalyptic World', please post something here.

I noticed in another thread that "Meiji Restoration", the Japanese special achievement may be acting a bit funny. You may need to build the district that is surrounded last. Also, not sure if city center or some other non special districts count as either the one boosted or as one of the boosters. I'm playing Japan now (but slowly, limited time and Epic speed), if I don't get the achievement, I'll start up a Settler Information Age game and do some experimentation to figure it out (unless someone else posts the info first).

I have manged to get
"Gift from the Storm God"
early in my game as Hattusa was the first CS I met.

I did a quick test on "Meiji Restoration" since I didn't have it yet, and I unlocked it with this:

Which from my reading of the description doesn't make sense that this would unlock it, but it did. The last district placed was the Commerce district in the bottom left.

I have just got this achievement with basic nuke (the one with smaller damage range) and nuclear submarine.
All wonders were placed on my own territory.

I reloaded my game from above from before I gifted the city away, and thermo-nuked it while it was still mine. Sure enough, it unlocked the achievement.

Finally finished my Japan game. Only 34% done now. Got the following:

"The Divine Right of Kings"
"Mission to Mars"
"Katsu!"
"Six Shooter"
"Repo Man"
"Rennaissance Man"
"Unique Snowflake"

I did not get the Japanese special achievement. Going to research that now with some easy game, late starts.

Edit: oh, I never saw Darwin or Newton. Not sure how that works, are there games they don't appear or did I just miss them?

I read somewhere that Seven Wonders of the Post-Apocalyptic World requires you to launch the nukes from units, not from silos.

currently at 83%
for some reason sphinx pyramids achievement didn't work
I had a sphinx on floodplains and the pyramids next to as well

does it have to start in ancient era

I managed to do "Walk Like an Egyptian". Both the sphinx and pyramids need to be on flood plains and next to each other. Maybe they both need to be in the same city? Not sure about that, in my success both were in my capital.

You need to remember about build order: first place pyramids, then sphinx.
Achievement description says: As Egypt build a Sphinx adjacent to the Pyramids both on Floodplains

If sphinx is already placed, it can be removed and built again.

Edit: I missread above post as did not manage ;) but maybe additional info will help someone else

I got "Meiji Restoration" with a silly Settler game. Easiest way to get it is a late (Atomic/Information) Era start, found cities pretty close, then build districts in a circle with two or three cities doing the building. Finish off with a Campus or other district that gets + for adjacency in the center. Avoid Housing, Aquaducts etc. Just the special ones. I also got:

"Legends of the Hidden Temple"
"Silver Anniversary" - you must have 6 silver avail to trade. If you do trade one, it does not count towards the six until the trade ends.
"Splitting the Atom"

Think I'll play the Aztecs next. Standard Map so I can go after their special achievement. Need to do an ancient start to look at starting strategies. Been playing too many advanced starts for the achievements. I haven't tried Marathon yet, so I'll give that a try, so it will be a while before I finish it.
