PLEASE NOTE:

- for those interested, the Apolyton site has a massive Civ2 file database, check it out here: http://apolyton.net/civ2/ (from here go to the Database)

- as the Apolyton Civ2 archive isn't indexed, here's a cross section to some excellent Civ2 scenarios: http://sleague.apolyton.net/index.php?title=Category:Civ2_MGE_Scenarios.

Credits: Patrick Choo/kobayashi, Tim F. Smith (and many more I haven't tracked down)

As I just noticed the Civ2 - Scenarios section from the DL Database seems to be missing quite a lot of scenarios, I'm uploading 2 more creations:

1940 is my personal version of the official WW II scenario, which attempted to cover WW II in Europe using the original units. Units, buildings, Wonders, terrain and advances have been edited.

1941 is an advanced start version of the same, beginning in June, 1941. Units, buildings, Wonders, terrain and advances have been edited.

When I have time I'll reload some of the Civ2 scenarios I've downloaded over time, as some of the finest products for Civ2 currently aren't in the Database.

I've added 3 more scenarios:

- Crusades (1), an edited version of the official Crusade scenario, in the Medieval Scenarios section

- Crusades (2), another edited version of the official Crusade scenario, in the Medieval Scenarios section

- 1870 or Imperialism, in the Industrial Scenarios.

That's it for now.

I've added some images to a couple of the scenarios. (Unfortunately, most mages are in the wrong format - Bitmap instead of GIF -, so I can't upload more of them...)

Wow! My 1st Civ2 response!

 Why don't you just convert the 8-bit BMPs to either GIFs or 8-bit PNGs?

I would if I knew how to. Also, I've never been able to make screenshots from Civ2 games, otherwise I might have posted my scenarios a long time ago. I've only become a CFC member in Oct. 2006 (though I play Civ from the 1st edition) and I'm a technical moron, so that's why.

Don't need any fancy software for that; you can do it in MS Paint. Load the file and select Save As... in the File menu. Choose GIF from the Save as type drop down menu. If you want more options, such as transparency or interlacing, you'll need something better than MS Paint, eg, XnView - a free graphics viewer and converter. IrfanView can do similar.

For screenshots, hit the Print Scrn key and paste (Ctrl+V) the image into your graphics editor. Crop it to desired size and save. There are a couple of free graphics editors in Paint.NET and The GIMP, that are hands down better than MS Paint.

Hints for taking screenshots? What else do you need to know? For an 8-bit colour game like Civ2, save them as GIFs or 8-bit PNGs. For games with higher colour depths, eg, Civ4, use JPGs (24-bit), or even GIFs or 8-bit PNGs with optimised palettes (the software will do that for you).

Preferably in-game? That's always a good start.

Right... What I meant was how do I take screenshots of Civ2? (What to do after that isn't now a problem, but I've never been able to in the first place.)

*Cough* What's wrong with this:
For screenshots, hit the Print Scrn key and paste (Ctrl+V) the image into your graphics editor. Crop it to desired size and save.

Gesundheit! I've tried that already, but nothing seems to happen... That's why I asked. I've never been able to figure out how to take friggin' Civ2 screenshots. (I know how to use the Print Screen key; I've used it numerous times for Civ4 stuff. I'm not that much of a technical moron.)

So why didn't you say that in the first place, instead of asking for hints? :p I've gotten used to people not reading posts in forums.

So your 'Print Scrn' key isn't working? After you've hit 'Print Scrn', is there anything stored on the clipboard? You're using Windows XP? To view the contents of the clipboard, go to your Windows directory → System32 → clipbrd.exe. Double-click the executable. Is there an image in there?

IrfanView and XnView can take screenshots and save them as files or to the clipboard. For IrfanView, go to the Options menu → Capture/Screenshot... → pick your saving method, note the hot key and click the Start button. Find the window you want in Civ2. Hit the hot key combo and you have it. You can crop the image by dragging a box around an area using the left mouse button and then hitting Ctr+Y. The process is almost identical in XnView: Tools menu → Capture Screen..., etc. Cropping is much the same: use the Crop tool on the toolbar or hit Shift+X.

Thanks:)... it's been a while since I tried to take Civ2 screenshots. (And I always read posts before answering; what I don't read, I don't answer. And what's posted on my threads I always read and, if possible, answer.)

Do you think you could add links to the first post?
