Game Version: BtS 3.19
MOD: World War II 1939
Scenario: WWII 1940 Global Scenario by JediPimp adapted to MultiPlayer by Luthor
Starting date: June 1940 (kind of)
Difficulty for humans: Prince

PBEM MOD
The PBEM will be based on the MOD called World War II 1939. Here are the downloads of the MOD for this specific PBEM:
http://www.mediafire.com/download.php?thnw2mssm1uy1p8
http://www.mediafire.com/download.php?3haghfi18xqfk73

The scenario starts in June 1940, which is, on a broad sense, more or less historically realistic in Europe but does not respect the exact situation on that moment in history in Asia.
In Europe, the Axis has conquered Poland, France and Norway and signed a peace treaty with the Vichy French (which only have possessions in Africa and not in Europe).
In Asia, Japan is at war with China. It has a mighty navy and a relevant army but lacks oil due to the oil embargo. The Rising Sun Empire is at peace with USA and the Commonwealth. and now faces a difficult choice: should it follow the path of peace or... war?

The starting wars are the following:
- GB and Germany
- GB and Vichy
- Japan and China

GAME OPTIONS
NO City Flipping from Culture
Raging barbarians
Aggressive AI
No Tech Trading
Require Complete kills
No Vassal States
No Espionage

VICTORY CONDITIONS (in the game)
Nations can ally between themselves but, in the end, there can be only one victorious nation! The victory conditions are the following ones: Time, Conquest, Domination, Diplomatic.

VICTORY CONDITIONS (out of the game)
a) Victory by location control
If a nation, at a certain point in time holds any 7 of the VIP cities it will be immediately declared the winner (regardless of the victory points scored in the game).

b) Victory by spreading ideologies
- If the Communist "Religion" influence gets higher than 40% then USSR is the game winner.
- If the Fascist "Religion" influence gets higher than 40% then Germany and Japan are co-winners.
- If the Democratic "Religion" influence gets higher than 67% then USA and GB are co-winners.

How to determine the true winner amongst co-winners? By the number of VIP cities held at that moment. If they are the same... then the nation with the highest Civ score wins.

The VIP cities are: London, Jerusalem, Washington, Panama, Ankara, Berlin, Rome, Tokyo, Pekin, Singapure, Moscow, Vladivostok, Buenos Aires, Sydney, Cape Town.

I'm interested in playing in this one (assuming invitations are open?).

I'm happy to take whichever country fits in with timezone/turn order. I'm GMT +10.

Ricketyclik invitations are open. Welcome to the game!

But, instead of doing choices by timezone, usually I prefer that people make a choice based on their nation preference. If the game take a bit longer because of that... so be it. There are times when I can play in 1 day but sometimes I take longer, therefore, I don't insist in a very fast pace. Off course it can't be too slow but if you want to choose based on nation preferences please do so.
However, if you are undecided because all the nations seem too good (;)) then you can be the last one to pick and get whatever nation is left.

Rd13, it would be good if you could join! Even though I would fear to have you as a potential enemy, it would be good if you can join. If you can solve that issue then please join!!! :)

Seems like a cool mod. I would be up for joining and represent my home country of the USA very well :)

I'll be Great Britain (Player A) EDIT: Germany (I want to be bad for once ;)). It's been a while since I've played PBEM. Playing one turn/day isn't an issue for me. I'm in the Pacific Time Zone (GMT -7) but am willing to switch if someone else wants it.

EDIT: BTW, I'll be on a business trip next week so may be a tad slow.

EDIT 2: Why have the Axis play first? Does that balance the game better?

1. Shouldn't be a problem. Not only the game is not full yet as I also need to make some final arrangements (don't like some of the Government styles in initial scenario).

2. They are some allied units exposed which the Axis nations (both of them) have to see if they want to grab the opportunity or not. This would be quick wins but there are disadvantages by doing that.
Example: USA has some relevant ships near Pearl Harbour at range of the Japanese fleet. But, in order to sink those ships, Japan will have to declare war on the USA...
If USA plays before Japan they could run away and the (potential) opportunity could be lost.

I'm having trouble downloading the mod. It takes me to a Game Front website and my IE locks up... I've tried it three times. Can someone attach it to this thread or is it too big?

Why change them? I've never even opened the mod but I assume that this mod has a lot of mileage on it and things have been adjusted to balance things as much as possible?

WWII with no Japanese bombing of Pearl Harbor? That's outrageous! ;)

- All nations with a Infantry III unit (named Guard) cannot move that unit until they are able to produce more of those units (which means discovering the Assault Rifles technology).

This sounds hard to police and probably isn't fair for the nation(s) with this unit to have to declare when they've learned Assault Rifles giving everyone notice that all he!! is about to break loose. :D I don't even know what an Infantry III unit is or who has them (still having trouble downloading the mod ) but wouldn't it be better to just remove said units and replace them with something that the nation can build that is equivalent (i.e. replace 2 Infantry III units with 3 Infantry II units, for example). Or just let the nation use the unit. I've played in xOTM games where we are given one advanced unit without the associated tech and it's quite interesting. Otherwise these units are a 1 gold/turn doorstop.

Despite Civ's advice to "Never fight a land war in Asia" I think I'll have a go at playing the Japanese please.

Just keep your wars contained to Asia or east and you'll be fine. Maybe our armies will meet somewhere close to Kansas... :mischief: Sorry Nighthawk... :D

I havent actually downloaded the mod either, I will be doing that to check... but the power of the US of A I'm sure will keep anyone from invading my mainland...

I have to go back and read, but alliances are not set officially, right? so while we may choose to be historically accurate, I could theoretically go to war with England, right?

Either way, USA is currently neutral in all international relations. We are worried about our own shores and care not for that which is happening over in Europe/Asia! :nuke:

We'll just have to make sure that you're gone before 1945 to remove any :nuke: temptations then...

Download... the MOD size is around 500Mb, so probably too big to put here but I can try and send it by email. Just send me your emails and I'll send it to you.

Just one thing: I have removed the initial terrain style from my MOD but I'll try to find the original terrain settings and send that also. Then you can decide to include the MOD's terrain or the basic BTS.

Infantry III and IV... those special (strong) units can't move at the beginning of the game (they have zero movement points) as they were incorporated to make certain cities harder to conquer (Berlin, London, Moscow, Leningrad, Tokyo, Ankara, etc). However experience players could get around that limitation and get them to move, which would mean using a unit designed for defense to be used for attack. As the unit has zero movement points (all humans have at least one) then just don't change that.

Nighthawk419, the relations are free. So it is possible for USA to attack GB or Japan to attack Germany. It is even possible for Japan to attack USA!!!

I have added one "Religious" victory condition (out of the game). This could be won militarly but also peacefully by exporting your main ideology. It could also contribute to a higher cooperation between nations of the same ideology... The communists will have to proudly stand alone as no one can stand Stalin anyway!!!

.

Why change them?
Because it is strange to have Germany start as a "Democracy"...

Players can later change as they want... we could have Totalitarism in USA, a Non-militaristic approach in Germany, a Left-Wing government in Japan, etc... but the start should be closer to reality.

On the Politics style, there is one Left-Wing that is more like the "USA Democrats Party style" or "Socialist Parties in Europe" than really left left (as equal to communism)... so USA will start that one. I meant to change but the details behind the name make sense for USA (and it's just the name that can be misleading...)

500 MB will be way too large for my e-mail. Maybe the Game Front website is having issues at the moment and it will clear up soon. Can anyone get to the Game Front main website and navigate freely? If so, maybe someone could post a link to the actual download file (as opposed to the website) in this thread so that we could right click and "Save As" without having to actually go to the page...

Regarding the Infantry III units, do they automatically gain movement points when the required tech is learned or do we have to do something to allow it?

Hmmm.... I've tried the gamefront just now and it seemed fine. Maybe try this link:
http://www.gamefront.com/files/17189402/world_war_ii_-_1939_mod_2.80.exe/

It is strange that the MOD won't work. It works fine in my PC...
You guys know that the MOD should not be placed under "My Games\Beyond the Sword\MODS\" but under the MOD directory where the BtS game file is, right? (...\Civilization4\Beyond the Sword\Mods\)

Are you using Windows 7/Vista (32-/64-bit)? If so here is a bit of advice from an expert:
http://forums.civfanatics.com/showthread.php?t=408537

The Infantry III that the nations start with won't move as it has zero movement points. But once you get "Assault Rifles" you'll be able to build other Infantry III units that do move as regular infantry.
