I think India is one of the easiest UHVs... If you do it correctly. It is annoying that the first three religions are luck though... (Greece will often head for Buddhism...) but once you're over that hump, it becomes a very interesting game... A totally different style of play than any other...
My two cents on this thread...
I've been playing civ5 since it was released, about 12 hours a day. (I'm on vacation.) As a lover of the RFC mod, here's what I think... (not all bad.)
- I think the graphics are great... Although, for whatever reason, the defaults were set on mostly...
Being number one in pop isn't that hard. Just have at least 5 cities and trade away all of your non-health resources for health ones... The Iron is usally good for a couple... Once you're close enough not to worry about Devine Right bulbing in time, max your food production in all your cities...
Yes, micromanage your city. If you do the Lahore start, you'll be fine. If you're going ultra-historical and insist on Delhi as your captial, then you REALLY need to micromanage. Each time the city pops up one, check the squares that are ebing worked. Max out on gold to force out more tech...
One more thing, if you're able to trade someone for Code of Laws, you'll get to Devine Right easy. Just switch to pasifist government and you'll churn out twice as many GP's... Not required though to win, but eases the preasure a bit... Once you have Devine Right, it's a mad dash to be first...
Yeah, India can be tough...
About 20% of the time, Judaism will be autofounded before you get to monotheism. Try to maximize your odds with a Delhi start by concentrating your worked plots on science. (Manually selecting the best money slots works best, clicking the "emphisize science"...
Sorry, I just sort of skimmed this thread...
But I'm with you. I have been doing the UHV's with trying to be as historically accurate as possible. I've beat Egypt, India, China, Babylon, Greece, and I'm currently working on Persia without changing the starting positions...
For India, I...
It's easier and harder at the same time really... (I'm going to try again tonight.) Easier because of the advantage against archers, i.e. Bayblon and Egypt (if you hit them before they secure the copper.) Harder with the limited movement... Roads are much more important now...
Has anyone tried the persian UHV with the new immortals? Sorry if this is an old question, but I've been away from Civ4 for a while and just came back to it not too long ago...
Anyway, I can get pretty close to world domination at 8%, but it's much more difficult that in used to be...
I just finished Babylon myself a few days ago... I went with the no combat method...
Rushed to writing (I was only beat to it once by China).
Worker made cottages on every square I was using.
Got the religous techs and went for Code of Laws.
Built the Oracle for Monarchy, switched, then...
I had the same thing happen to me when playing as Babylonia... The Persians just sat there with a stack of immortals (2N, 1E of Babylon) and never attacked...
Granted, I played Babylonia a bunch of times in a row (going for the UHV) and this only happened once or twice... Other times, they...
Well, I found after several games that attacking China is not the easiest road to take... Here's why:
1.) If you capture Beijing with your two warriors (which I did only about 50% of the time), then you have to raze it. The maint. costs are too high to keep it while trying to research...
I didn't think of that... I used to my prophet for a shrine... At the time, I really needed money...
Someone gets Taoism 3 turns before me... I've done a reload, still didn't make it. Going to try another time though...
You know, the Indian UHV isn't as hard as it used to be... Kind...
I'm actually playing a game right now that is one my more weirder Indian games... Not sure if I'll get to the UHV, but it's definatley a more interesting game...
I went for hindu/budda first and sent warriors to take out China. Captured beijing and kept it... You're right, stability hasn't...
Yes, if you rish China, Japan takes over... In my most recent game, I killed off China early and found Japan there later... Just 3-4 cities maybe on the coast (I didn't really get a good look), but it was enough to stop me from ever having a chance at #1 in pop... When I was at 5 million...
You guys could have predicted my game... Wish I would have read this before I started playing last night...
Well, I beat China with two warriors on my second try... It was a lot of luck though... China had two warriors of their own when I got there... Although one was out walking around...
Very nice win...
You know, honestly, the first time I beat the Indian UHV, I did it with founding Dilli on the spot... I've actually won the UHV two or three times with Dilli as my start city, but I do reload a bunch more than I probably need to due to the autofounding of Judaism...
That's a really interesting way of doing the UHV... Taking China out early opens up their religion path and takes them out of the running for the #1 in pop slot for the last UHV req...
I might give it a shot this way... I beat the Indian UHV by busting out Great people for religous techs...
