Anyone else waiting for a 'stable' patch before they buy the game?

Hehe. bought for half retail at Future Shop yesterday, I'm learning the game. :)

    Identical Map Generation (not random!!)

Yep, tried to reseed a number other than 0, the random map generator is disabled in the demo, which is fair enough.

    Identical Map Generation (not random!!)

The demo also demonstrates this behavior, I've played games as India, from settler to monarch with each and every game with the same map. Thought it was part of the demo release until I read this thread.

10 Reasons Why Conquests Went Wrong

There was really only one reason Conquests went wrong. They invited/approved alot of knowledgeable people to participate in the beta testing and then unwittingly ignored the findings/concerns.

    AI or 3D Engine

Well, unfortunately, I believe more man hours will go into unit shadows than AI because of the perception that eye candy might sell millions.

    C3C Patch or Civ4 earlier?

Hehe, exactly, Civ3 was hand me down code and that is why it had so much bugs, right? So there would be no reason to have to test the new super code for so long.

    C3C Patch or Civ4 earlier?

Well, I'm pretty sure I've seen that they have been testing MP already, so you think they will delay 18 months from now? I'd speculate it's mostly the graphics that are in the works to pretty it up. ;)

    C3C Patch or Civ4 earlier?

Sorry, guys I voted no patch since I never did bother to buy Conquests. I think they might get Civ 4 to us by this Xmas, 2004. Then we can have at least half the Civ4 patch by mid 2005 with the 3/4 patch in the form of an expansion pack by Xmas, 2005. Why waste time making the product better...

    Game runs slow

I will give you advice that Firaxis has ignored for a couple years and believe me, I know a thing or two about workers. One of the most problematic deficiencies on huge maps is the workers AI. (And, I use the word AI real loose here cause there really is no AI in this game and this is not a...

Bad news: Next patch on hold

My condolences to those that are unsatisfied with the situation but you can't blame the powers that be's lack of confidence/interest in any further touching of that source code.

Who is working on HOF attempts w/o threads?

Brief update on my Chieftain run with the Persians. 1000AD - 3458 points +39ppt - Genetics in 2 turns. The entire Infrastructure is about 90% complete (thanks to drafting mech infantry for rushing hospitals and mass transit) but I still will be reoptimizing some city placements to...

Who is working on HOF attempts w/o threads?

It's only 3655, so what ever I get on this map, there is room for alot of improvement.

Who is working on HOF attempts w/o threads?

Yes, all my current land is fully developed, but I'm not yet at the domination limit. The pace of this game is much higher than my last, so I don't think I need a higher domination limit to join you in the 10000 club. :)

Who is working on HOF attempts w/o threads?

I thought I'd turn up the juice a bit on the PTW Chieftain HOF score so... At 500AD the Democracy of the Persians are researching Combustion in 4 turns. I should be able to get to modern age in 20 turns (but still need sanitation so may detour 4 turns for that.) Although expansionist civs...

    C3C v1.20 patch is out!!!

I'm sooo glad they waited for this to be perfected before the final release, I wonder what it was like before they started the last round of fixes. :) Good thing these clowns don't work for Donald Trump cause it does nothing for the business model unless of course this is all part of the...

    They Have Ruined This Game

Let me assure you that I don't think software prices are determined by the promiscuity of bugs or the chatter on forums. Nor do I confuse "risk management" with "clever marketing". ;) I'm sure that these bugs/features will be fixed to the best of their ability and budget.

    They Have Ruined This Game

Well the way the arguments go in this thread the game was not ruined with the Conquest expansion, it was already ruined. :) Many of us learned from the PTW release and decided to wait to see what new damage would come from Conquests. I guess when the price went from 29.99 to 9.99 in less than...

A small trick to keep AI happy

This is not an exploit, it's a game deficiency, like many of the other game deficiencies. If you sell an item of for under the market value or give an item to an AI player they should be happier with you (or think your a fool at least :) ). Having to give them money so they can pay the fair...

    Request for patch info!

The RCP problem should never have been declared fixed, in Sept., if it was not tested. I know there were plenty of capable people doing testing that would have identified the current problem in less than a day if they had been allowed a chance to test the validity of that claim prior to release...
