I believe that you can have several types of armies but they would be ones that you build, only one can come from a leader (I haven't tried this yet though)

Thats what people tend to forget. Civ turns can represent several years, so the infinite railroad movement is realistic. But if you go with that line of thought, all the units don't have enough movement points... Altough I dont really care about how realistic certain aspects of the game are.
