Tech Trading and other obsolete features...

RAs seem really broken to me, though tech trading did not. If I can get RAs with most Civs running at the same time, and research the cheap techs myself, then I end up with a massive tech lead while I stomp my neighbors into the ground with 1upt troops. I went back to Civ IV... and am hoping...

    Civ5-Civ4-Civ3

So you haven't played the game, didn't research the game enough to know if your screenshot was accurate, and posted anyway about how much it sucks? Pick up a copy of the game and play it awhile -- then you can KNOW why it sucks instead of assuming. Then you can go back to Civ IV...

Three (1/2) months later... The facts about Civ 5's problems

My biggest issue is that Civ IV, pre-patches and expansions, was fun. Civ V, pre-most-patches (I hope) and pre-expansions (I hope), is boring. I don't care if it's different, or unique, or innovative, or whatever--I care if it's fun. The previous adjectives can help something be fun, but they...

    The Final Analysis?

I guess my biggest problem with CiV is that it's boring. In C-IV, winning or losing, I'm one-more-turning myself to death. I'd actually get bored as soon as I knew I was going to win and would quit, but would re-play immediately to have more fun. Getting to the win/lose point was great fun...

    1000 Beakers! Per Turn!

How does one steer a RA? (And I agree - great thread! I was an avid Civ IV player and just got 5 a week ago... so off to civfanatics I go!)

    Circumnavigating the world

+1 movement to all ships doesn't always seem like a big deal, but try blitz destroyers with 9 movement. They destroy stacks all by themselves. Heheh. Even in the age of the galleon, if you're moving men/material 15 turns (60 squares), +1 movement drops it to 12 turns. It's not an amazing...

    Unable to download from Civfanatics

Thanks Jerry! I actually clicked download before I came to this thread this morning, and it inexplicably worked fine. /shrug I appreciate the suggestion, though. :)

    Unable to download from Civfanatics

Last night I was able to download BTS 3.17 patch and the HOF mod, but now any time I try to download anything else (I'm trying to get the Earth 34 scenario), it says "You're going too fast! Please wait 2 seconds before trying to download another file." I've logged off, rebooted, made sure...

    Earth 18 civs- most overpowered?

FYI: I'm a Monarch player, but FYI in this scenario Monarch AIs don't start with archers! Anyone in Europe is the easiest, because you own all the capitals by 1000BC-0AD and the capitals are badass production cities which allow you to win at your leisure. I normally don't kill Cathy so she...

How to best capitalize on a Religious Monopoly?

Did you tailor-pick your opponents, or just get lucky? I rarely go for one of the first two religions on Monarch because you're unlikely to get either - but you got both. In my experience, that means *no one* started with Mysticism but you. In any case, focus on just one religion, spread it...

    "Earth" Scenario with Ashoka

Beeline construction, roll over China and Mongolia with war elephants and catapults while pushing to CoL so you can afford the new cities - then use your position as the largest landowner in Asia to roll over Cyrus and Russia. Conquer Saladin in time for oil, then win in whatever manner you...

Is WBing in Ivory as Khmer Fair?

If you'll stop playing the game and start another one because of no ivory, but would rather keep playing it with ivory, then go ahead. It's a single player game - do whatever you want. :) I click the box that disallows WB before I start, because as someone said earlier, it's a "slippery...

    Sitting Bull!?

I've seen him do FANTASTIC once, but he usually sucks. He vassalized both Huayana and Mansa on a continent to themselves. By the time I met him he was a tech giant with a massive military, and it just got worse. I did end up winning, but he really, really liked to declare war.

    Apostolic Palace expires?

Word. That's what I do if the AP holder actually has a chance at it or is annoying me. Or... you can always DoW and raze it. That works, too.

Chicken Itza: What is the point?

Priest GPPs are a good reason to build it, plus it boosts your power score as well. Really the only time I shoot for it is if I wouldn't mind the GPPs and could definitely use the cash if someone beats me to it. Or if I'm Industrious and have Stone, in which case it's basically free, anyway...

    Riflemen or cannons?

I always operate under the assumption that if you have ivory, use elephants instead of pikes. It doesn't actually go without saying on the boards, though. Thanks for making that clear! :)

    Late cultural victories

I think those two sum it up, actually. I prefer the trio of GP farms because it also cranks out lots of artists for you, and GAs win culture victories. (Or if you're already going to win it, they win it faster). When I go for culture (which is usually never because I find it boring and too...

Any tips for Monarch and above?

Interesting. I found it to be quite hard. I thought Noble to Prince was trivial and Prince to Monarch was big learning curve.

    Best way to learn?

Go read Sisiutil's ALCs from the first one to the last. All by itself that's worth a two-difficulty level jump for a rookie. His posts are entertaining and fun, but the discussions inbetween is where the real knowledge comes from.

How to use my Great Scientists?

I like to settle them once the liberalism race is done (and bulbing only saves me a few turns on a tech). Keep in mind that settling not only gives you the beakers, but one raw hammer as well!
