Editing the map is cheating, I suppose, but I would rather do that then start the game over and over till I get a decent spawn point. Besides, if you really want to cheat the best way to do that is use the Firaxis Live Tuner. With that you can just plop resources or units anywhere you want and...
So is there still no way to edit a map you are playing on or from a saved game? I really don't want to create a map and then use the same map over and over, I'd just like to occasionally tweak the terrain of the random map that loads.
I have played a few games now and tried to be the nice guy. I avoid building close to my neighbors, give them luxury resources without asking for anything, and side with them to conspire against their enemy civ. Doing all this I still cant get even a defensive pact going; is there something I am...

Being ruskie my favorite is of course the Motherland. Though even if I was not the bonus production you get gives you a decent edge as does the krepost for spreading culture.
If anyone figures out how to alter/add terrain with the firetuner please post the steps. I think there are a few of us that would really appreciate the help.

If someone could create Atlantis with the specs below I'd appreciate it!
Given that Atlantis was supposedly a civilization with superior technology I would go with something like this...
Atlantis
+2 Science per City until Scientific Theory
Unique Unit: Skilled Worker +25% to worker...
