Comparing Civ 2, III, and IV?

I loved Civ2, but after the later editions came out it seemed too backwards. I can't play it anymore. I hated Civ 3. I dunno, it was just so...meh. The combat system, the corruption system, diplomacy, the AI, I dunno, I just couldn't get into it at all. Civ 4, on the other hand...

    Finding more than one religion?

What control do you have over which city becomes the holy city? Isn't it random?

    Finding more than one religion?

You can deny the religions to others. You can spread the religion amongst your own cities; being able to make multiple temples, monasteries, cathedrals etc. really helps culture generation, and lets you assign many more priest specialists. I believe theocracy only inhibits religious spread...

Does Civ III work properly yet?

You know, if you want an experience that's a lot more like Civ2, but with better AI, better diplomacy, borders, and suchlike, you should try Alpha Centauri. Multiplayer works awesome in that, I can assure you. Also, if you're really interested in creating a "Civ 2.5", you should check out...

    Help with hardware upgrades

I have run XP on a 128 mb system acceptably, at least for SMAC and web browsing. 2x256 ram is only better than 1x512 if you have a fancy type of dual-threaded ram thing, which I believe is in the latest Intel systems. Of course, the more ram the better (I have a gig) but if you can only...

Does your favorite faction's ideology match your own

Including the peacekeepers? They're not many people's favorites, but there's not much to dislike about them either. They're pretty nondescript.

    Firebird, the CPU drainer?

Netscape found themselves losing the browser wars horribly in the late 90s. So they opened their source code for the whole world to improve -- this was actually the genesis of the open source movement, as opposed to the free software movement from which it sprang. The result of that was the...

    Firebird, the CPU drainer?

A matter of taste. I happen to think that Opera 7 is pretty ugly. But to each his own. sebanaj: Firefox is essentially the latest version of netscape, you know, only streamlined and generally better.

    Product Key?

Most game publishers will gave you an unkeyed version if you can demonstrate you bought the game. Rise of Nations is published by Microsoft, though, and they can be a bit meaner than other publishers that way.

    So, who actually won?

The books were not nearly as good as they could have been. I wouldn't consider them a canonical story.

I'm not here too often, so if someone would contact me when this starts, I'd appreciate it. I'm kundor@cwru.edu. I think standard procedure is to send a save game to the person running the thing, yes, so they can make a table of scores and stuff. Having just the end save game would be fine.

    Poll: Worst Windows OS Ever?

You'll find a lot of people...including the windows world...who feel gimp and openoffice are better than their proprietary counterparts. Gimp might not be QUITE as good as photoshop, but it's nearly there, and for free vs. hundreds of dollars, it's hard to argue for the alternative. Similar...

    Your next CPU?

Yes I have. It runs fine, but it's a bit more work to get devices working than in normal windows. I got SMAC and Dungeon Siege to run well, then I got bored and went back to 64-bit linux. ;) There aren't many drivers out yet -- nvidia's are good, but there aren't any for my turtle beach santa...

    Poll: Worst Windows OS Ever?

Tell that to the millions of people who have been using linux for years to do everything they need :p I've run nothing but gnu/linux for 14 months now, and it's done everything I need: word processing with OpenOffice is better than Word, Mozilla Firefox is FAR better than IE, Thunderbird is...

    Mozilla Firebird

Opera has tabs, mouse gestures, built-in email, a unique look, pop-up blocking, and is free with an ad banner next to the address bar. A paid version has no ad banner. Your next CPU?

I already upgraded to an Athlon 64 3200+. :D Currently, the cheapest Athlon 64 processor (3000+) is 211 dollars at newegg, and can perform on par with Intel processors costing $600 more. Plus, now that Windows 64-bit is finally available, and 64-bit apps can start coming out, the Athlon64...

Does your favorite faction's ideology match your own

Where's the option for "Yes. I like to be the most evil human on Planet." :p Seeing how I took Yang's idealogy from Alpha Centauri and adopted it as my own, founding an organization dedicated to spreading it on Earth...I'll have to say it matches.
