A corn, riverside farm, 2gems and a gold was more than enough for a huge economic boost at the start. It may not of had the most potential, but at the time it as enough to support my army and tech a quick Horseback riding.

I play with random personalities so the AI are always different.

Anyone else play with these settings? Sometimes I notice the barbarians don't really affect me at all while other times I'll have 3 archers and 2 warriors surrounding my 2 cities. I never really thought about it but maybe the barbarians are giving the AI more trouble than me and it's actually...

I say just settle in place. The stone may save you a few trees but I find the game generally tends to put you in a good place.

Ya I downloaded the patch, I love how they fixed the tooltip when building buildings now. It still sucks that the bug ruined my game though. Oh well, I'm glad with the new fixes and started a new game :)

Ya thats true, plenty of food, some river tiles and enough production for you're basic buildings.

Settle in place, Get a clam or 2 while you're exploring and then chop/whip a settler which will be easy since you're imperialistic and get a 50% bonus from the chops.
