    Not excited...... not one bit

SODs are a better choice for a strategy empire-building game precisely *because* they give victories to the economically and technologically superior players. Civ is not (primarily) about demonstrating your brilliance as a military strategist; it *is* about testing your genius at building an...

Taking Matters into Our Own Hands: A Proposal for a Fan-produced SMAC Remake

@HarvesterofSorr Planetfall was, for me, too disruptive of the original ambiance of the game in its total revision of the tech tree, facilities, and other such elements of the gameworld. I'd like something that modernizes gameplay and graphics without changing story or setting. @bhavv Those...

Taking Matters into Our Own Hands: A Proposal for a Fan-produced SMAC Remake

Let's all get real for just a moment: no one is going to make SMAC 2 for us. Not EA, not 2k, not Firaxis, nobody. And, let's be honest, after seeing CiV do any of us trust them to anyway? If we want it done, and I know many of us do, we have to do it ourselves, and there's no reason we can't...

    Does anyone play CiV realistically?

That's the only way I like to play. My people are on a civilizing mission to every world they are born into.

    Civ 5...still a bit silly?

I understand what the OP is saying. Elvis aside, Civ II did feel more like a robust world in which I participated than do the others, which feel more like game boards. Even little things, like talking to emissaries with portraits of their rulers behind them instead of the rulers themselves (far...

    Other Games

I mostly just play with other people, so: CiV with my wife Magic: The Gathering - Duels of the Planeswalkers with my wife and my brother-in-law Starcraft 2 with my brother soon, Diablo III with my brother I wish I had time to do any single-player gaming, but who does these days?

If you could bring anything back from a past Civ game what would it be

From Civ 2: The foreign advisor. The ambassadors. Seriously. It is not at all realistic that every world leader comes to visit me for every little thing. Plus, they were a lot more imposing as portraits on their ambassador's wall, with an aura of mystery about them. From Civ...

What is your favorite Civilization game expansions included?

Alpha Centauri. I grew up playing that and Civ, and have lots of fond memories of both, but Alpha Centauri's world was just so immersive and gave me so much to think about that it really shaped my life in a lot of ways. Plus, to this day I am able to impress people by the number of deep...

    Longer city names?

Does anybody know of a way to up the max number of characters allowed in city names? For certain mods and certain languages (i.e. Yupik), the current limit just isn't cutting it.

Call for Contributors to SMAC mod

The work you did on icons is a huge leg up but your mod doesn't use all the technologies, and so leaves some out. Besides that, there will need to be new unit icons (because, as you mention, SMAC didn't have any), in addition to faction logos, social engineering emblems, some other miscellaneous...

Call for Contributors to SMAC mod

I am putting together a SMAC(X) facade for CiV. That is to say, not a total conversion to clone SMAC, or a game different from SMAC and CiV (a la the old Planetfall), but just a conversion of names, sounds, and graphics to set CiV balance and gameplay in the Alpha Centauri universe. I have...

    language options

My understanding was that Civ5 was going to support the same five languages that Civ4 did, but I only seem to have files for English, and my options menu only allows the selection of English. Does anybody know how I can get the other languages in my options?

Im gonna miss the bread and hammer icons.

As far as continuity goes, the green apples are just a bit of Alpha Centauri coming back on us. Nothing wrong with that, in my book.

    System Requirements?

I'm wondering if I can get it to run on one of those new Toshiba Libretto W100s. I know I'll have to turn all the graphics down (and reduce map size probably, too), but it would be pretty sweet for it to be playable at all!

Wich Civ2 feature would you like to see in Civ5?

The hot foreign advisor chick, definitely.

Swedish PC Gamer preview of Civilization 5 in March 2010 edition

Thank you for sticking up for Quechua, but I'm afraid Coptic IS only about as alive as Latin. I'm studying it as part of my Master's programme in Theology, and there are only about 300 people who can actually speak it; most of them are Coptic Orthodox priests who use it as a liturgical language...

    Dynamic Civ Names

I would dearly love to see a 3.17 compatible version of this for use in my multiplayer mod... (hint hint)

    Using FF Flags.

I've wanted to do this for some time now as well, and attempted to supplement art_misc.xml in the following fashion: <MiscArtInfo> <Type>ART_UNITGROUP_FLAG_FUTURE</Type> <Path>None</Path> <fScale>0.8</fScale> <NIF>Art/Units/Flags/Space_Flag.nif</NIF>...

How does Kael do it? (religion/city art changes)

I am currently working on a future era mod in which I would like to be able to change city graphics by religion, as it is done in Fall From Heaven II. I know that this is accomplished by using the python to check a player's religion and assign them to a specific era for that religion, which then...

    Flag file locations.

By way of reviving this thread... Did anyone ever find out where the controlling lines are that tie the era to the graphics tag? i.e. Where do I tell it that in the future era I want it to reference a newly created FLAG_FUTURE?
