Have you played without Warmongering or exploiting City States?

Playing without city states or warmongering. . . exactly what is left to DO?

    Why does everyone hate CIV5?

Didn't hate it, got bored of it. It lacks the depth and challenge of previous incarnations.

Do you quit when you know you will definitely win?

Because playing is the fun part, not the victory screen. Especially the lame POS victory screen we have in civ 5.

    backdoor domination--like it or not?

Domination wins are far too easy now.

City management when they are specialized

Every city should get the gold buildings, they have no maintenance cost. And its not like there's anything else worth building ussually.

is the great scientist too powerful?

Academy is 5 science base. Game lasts what, 330 turns on king? So thats 1550 science max (not counting bonuses from buildings). Ancient : 20-70 science, 300 turns left or so in game, Academy definetly better Classical : 80-150 science, 280 turns left or so in game, academy definetly better...

    Naval vs. Naval

Frigate strength is way too high relative to destroyers. Destroyer is 35/22. Frigate is 30/15. For the difference between a wooden sailing ship vs a steel turbine driven vessel this is not enough. Destroyer should wipe the floor with a frigate. Battleship is 60/32, also probably too low...

Civ 5 intro / End game intro / Wonder movies

heh. Game companies always spend a bunch of money on intro videos because they look good as advertising. I've always wondered if they really think we watch them everytime we start the game? They'd have been better off spending a lot less on their cgi artist and more on their AI programming as...

List of good and bad changes to Civ5

Because thats not what they're talking about? Obviously they're talking about the actual religions and the complexity they offered to culture, city management, diplomacy, and victory conditions. The stuff in civ 5 isn't the same at all. Its not just about the exact stats that religion added...

    OK, I'm mad now

Which is the way it worked all the way back to civ 1.

What if I pledge to protect

No, they don't care. And sometimes city states declare total war, and then the AI can't make peace anyway. I find that if I ask (not demand) that an AI make peace with one of my friendly city states, they ussually agree (at no cost, which is probably a bug). But they don't actually think about...

Does anyone else get really bored & quit before the Industrial age?

I was playing quick games, and unless I started going to war, yeah, I got bored fast. There's very little worth building, you can't really manipulate your happy cap much on a per turn basis, so there's not much to do as a non-warmonger. During my culture victory game I just started burning...

List of good and bad changes to Civ5

No, they still have artists, engineers, merchants, generals, and scientists. They can't join cities as super specialists anymore however, instead they can turn into a tile improvement.

To anyone dissatisfied, I have a hypothetical question.

Even if they fix all that, the game will still lack all the depth of the previous incarnations. Fewer strategic choices and options does not a better game make. And probably 99% of people who play civ never play multiplayer. Why they waste their time on that feature is beyond me.

Religion gone from Civ V is a Blessing

I agree, social policies are stupid. They don't feel like any kind of actual civilization style government or choice. I miss the old civics and governments. The anarchy was a good price to pay for changing the government. SMAC did it really well also.

Build more trading posts, and fewer buildings.

2K Greg's recent posts on the 2K forums

You know, its treatment like this that leads to a lack of community reps. They're just normal people trying to do a job, and they're not responsible for the overall state of the game.

Any point in building a Navy?

Bombardments are nice, but very situational until battleships. I mostly just keep a large enough navy to knock out barbarian galleys if they're a problem. Never seen the AI mount an invasion to save his life. Upgraded caravels make the best destroyers.
